Unknown RPO Codes

My car is an '86 Camaro IROC Z28. The car had the LB9 305TPI engine, 700R4, and 3.23:1 rear stock. The car was well optioned with t-tops, AC, cruise, power windows & locks, and the roof console. I verfied all of this information with the RPO codes and the decoder on this site. The problem is that there were a few RPOs that couldn't be found by the database. The codes are as follows:

B2G, D6F, E7Z, GC5, & GC6

Also, the code C48 comes up with the response "???"

Any help that anyone can provided would be greatly appriciated.

I'm betting that E7Z has something to do with your speedo. My car has
E5Z: Speedometer adapter (delete)
and
E9Z: Speedometer key(delete)

B2L is the IROC-Z code, not B2G. I could not find B2G in any of my doco. E7Z is a vehicle speed sensor delete. The car has an electronic speedo, so all mechanical related speedo parts are marked as deleted. D6F is another speedo related item (gear). I can't find GC5 or GC6, but I would think they are suspension related due to where they are located in the rpo list.

B2L will only be found on that years IROC-Z. I screwed up. B4Z is the IROC-Z package while B2L is the 350 and all associated items with it. I knew that answer but wasn't thinking!!

I made a mistake on the C48. It should really be a C4B code.

My RPO code B47 came up with the IROC package. It wouldn't sprise me if the B2G refered to equipment specifically for the IROC Z28 package, since there were IROCs built that were not Z28s and Z28s built that were not IROCS. The B2G code may have been how they distinguished them.

E7Z couldn't refer to an electronic speedo, because my car didn't have one. It had a cable driven speedo. I agree that it does refer to the speedo though, because I also have the RPOs E5Z and E9Z.

D6F may be the speedo gear, this would make sense. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't think the GC5 and GC6 codes are suspension related, because typically F RPOs are reserved for suspension stuff from my experience (and I could be wrong).

Thanks for all the help guys! Keep it coming, especially if the new information I added helps any.

RPO code E7Z doesn't refer to the Speedo, it means the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) was deleted and will show up on cars that have the RPO codes E5Z & E9Z.

Right, but what does it mean? What does that stuff really do? It can't be for electronic speedos because mine and TKOPerformance's are cable driven.

It means that there is no VSS on the transmission and there is no VSS buffer box on your car. Take a look behind your instrument cluster and you will find a small yellow unit there attached to the area around the tach. That is the VSS for cars with cable driven speedos and the RPO codes E5Z, E7Z, & E9Z. My car has those 3 RPO codes and it is cable driven and I don't have a VSS on the transmission.

Here are a couple more of the missing codes

D6F = Speedo Driven Gear

C48 = Heater Delete

GC5 = Right Rear Fender Height Adjustment

GC6 = Left Rear Fender Height Adjustment

B2G = Components Of Iroc-Z Package

To my knowledge, from 86 - 87 if you had code B4Z (IROC) then it was mandatory that you also had code Z28. Therefore 85 to 87 IROCs are also Z28s. However, you could have a Z28 that was not an IROC.

You are correct. All IROC's were IROC-Z(28's) But not all Z28's were IROC's since IROC wasn't introduced til 87 (Some argue late 86) but Z28's were much earlier than that.

I hate to argue with you about when the Iroc was first introduced but I had a chance to buy a Iroc in october of 1985 which is well before 1987.

The IROC-Z was introduced for the 1985 model year. It was an option package for the Z28 until 1987. In 1988, the IROC-Z became it's own model using the Z28 RPO code.

Unknown RPO Codes

I have been doing some research into the RPO Codes for my Z-28 this past month. I have found most of them, but I still cannot decode three: TT5, Z06 (Maybe zo6) and 17D. This was a special order car (Customer Order) with some different things, Recaro Seats etc. These codes have me very puzzled, and can't seem to find them in any decoder or on any searches here...Thanks, Ed.

RPO code TT5 = Headlights, Halogen 2

RPO code 17D = Trim Combination, Cloth, Medium Gray.

You might want to check that Z06 RPO code, everything I have found for that RPO pertains to Corvettes. On them it is a classification package about like the Z28 or Iroc on the camaros.

Unknown RPO Codes

The TT5 and the 17D Codes sound correct , but there is definitely a RPO Code of Z06 listed on the lid of the console. The original Vin is printed with it so I'm sure it is the correct RPO Code sheet for this car. How could an RPO Code for a Vett get on a Camaro? It's right between the Y06 and the Z28 Codes. This was a customer order car, is it possible to order a Corvette option on a Camaro?...Thanks, Ed.

The Z06 was a special performance package for the corvettes and included a L84 375 horsepower engine, better brakes and several other goodies. You did say it was a special order car.

BTW, your car is only a 2 door. Therefore your RPO code of E52 for the 83 inch right rear door wrap around is not correct. It should be an RPO code of E5Z which is for the Speedometer Key Adaptor delete.

known Rpo Codes

There the codes are much clearer now, and complete...Correct power antenna and the Red and Charcoal Interior...Funny thing though, the car has the code for the Quartz Clock, but the clock was never installed. The electrical wiring is there for it, and the hole through to the interior of the console box for the wind stem is punched. Seems as if the clock was to be installed but someone left it out, or over looked it 's installation maybe. Curious history...Thanks, Ed.

Here's a little Z06 history:

RPO Z06 has been used by Chevrolet on the Corvette since sometime in the early 60s. It originally coresponded to a factory built race car package which included a larger gas tank, stiffer suspension, improved brakes, deleted heater, manual everything, and a 327 making about 360hp coupled to a close ratio Muncie 4-speed.

Over the years the Z06 package has been re-used by Chevrolet in an attempt to market on the mythos of this original car. The newer Z06s have certainly been faster, better handling cars than their contemporary brethren, but not quite the balls to the wall street legal race car that the original Z06 was.

The Z06 in the C5 packs an LS6 (gen III small block architecture) that produces around 400hp. The car is also lighter than a standard Corvette, and available only in a hardtop.

Rumor has it that the next Z06 in the C6 Corvette (set to debut in about a year) will make around 450-475hp, and that the car will be one of the lightest Corvettes in recent history. Magnesium suspension crossmembers, titanium exhaust, and thinner window glass all contribute, as do carbon fiber body panels in place of fiberglass. It looks like GM has finally decided to try and cook some snake for dinner!

Wow, now that's going to be quite a Corvette. Yep, cooked snakes and munched GT-40's. ...but at what price tag?? GM/Chevrolet is doing wonderful things with their Crate Motors also. Almost like an aftermarket speed shop. Thanks for all, ED.

The word on the street is that the new Z06 will carry a price tag in the mid 50s, about where it is now. The base model C6s will still be in the low 40s well optioned. Now that's bang for your buck!

Looked at a couple of C6's a little while ago. From what I've seen, those things are starting in the upper 40's with well optioned ones going well into the 50-55.5K range. I would be shocked if C6 ZO6's have a sticker of anything less than 58,900 when they debut for the '06 model year.

This is not a Corvette forum. Let's keep the topic to 3rd gen.
