Come on down! I'm getting ready to put them up for the winter but I'm sure we can get 'em out for a drive. The race car is just brutal and well worth the ride!
Sorry, can't adopt another...we already have three little boys.
LOL!!! Will do, I wont have a computer there so I'll send you my cell number. Unfortanetly my Iroc and Z-28 are staying here till next year but I'll have my bird. Maybe I can pick yer brain.

some rare early firebird parts off the top of my head:
82 Recaro T/A hubcaps with gold crest instead of red (obsolete from day 1!)
82 Recaro T/A door handle inserts (aftermarket ones on ebay do not match)
gold-painted N89 wheels (i've been trying to find these for years in NOS shape.. or any shape)
the cardboard "washers" that go under the crossfire air lid hold-down nuts
84 (84) Recaro T/A decal kit (nobody makes them to my knowledge, and please don't say the 84 T/A decals are the same, because they are not!)
firebird front fenders, part numbers 10015855 and 10015856 stamped into the metal.
any color-coded interior piece from any color S/E, 1982-1984
any color-coded stripe kit for any S/E 1982-1984, obsolete from day 1.
1982-1984 S/E taillight filler piece color-coded eagles.. they must've come in a dozen colors over those years.
15-inch color-coded N89 hubcaps, like the grey ones in the 1983 Pontiac dealer video on the grey S/E or the gold ones on the 1982 gold S/E in promo pictures.. I have never verified a color-coded 15" N89 hubcap in real life, only 14". 15's are always black or chrome, except on those 2 promo cars I mentioned)
85-86 S/E hood (front vents like T/A hood, but no side vents)
any low-mile original unmolested Iron Duke firebird, totally stripped of all options. I'd pay serious money for a car like that, and I'm serious.
the list goes on and on........

Yikes,I have had 2 sets of gold N89 recaro rims and a set of NOS Recaro bowling ball caps,Didn't think much of them at the time and off to Knight Rider replica land they went. And I have had a couple of 15" caps in other "flavors",I remember I did have a NOS set of 15" Jadestone blue caps STILL in the GM box and burgandy and gold 15" caps.

i am having one hell of a time trying to find clear untinted glass. the little stamp on it just says flowlite not softray/flowlite has any body ever seen that? what about radio delet sail panels,i just mssed out on a decent bone interior with those panels DAMN!
I know for many years GM used the Clear Glass with NON AC cars, and the Tinted Green glass was with AC equiped cars... As for 3rd Gens, I am not sure how it worked out...
I THINK you may have a REALLY hard time finding CLEAR glass, if not next to impossible...
At this point I expect everyone to jump all over me telling me that they have clear glass, when in fact they have green... Have you tried a glass shop? it may still be available. Are you SURE you have Clear? The Green is very very light, and if you take a piece of WHITE paper and hold it so that you look through your door window and can see the white paper without the window and compare the two you may find a light tint.
I looked into the Parts catalogs and here is what I found 82-85 CLEAR W/O Defog 20197330
82-85 & 87-90 TINTED W/O Defog: 20197331
82-85 & 87-90 TINTED W/Defog: 20197332 86 (W/Hi mount lamp in window) CLEAR W/O Defog: 20608719
86 & 87 (W/Hi mount lamp in window) TINTED W/O Defog: 20608720
86 & 87 (W/Hi mount lamp in window) TINTED W/Defog: 20608721
91 & 92 TINTED W/O Defog: 10141486
91 & 92 TINTED W/Defog: 10141487
NOTE: The 1986 Export cars got the glass w/o the high mount brake light...

my buddy has a 82 z without air but it has tinted (green) glass.i think tinted glass was an option but then standard equipment in later years. my 84 z had nothing no ac,tilt, defrost, power seats, mirrors, windows nothing except for a console clock, this car had clear glass i have the hatch and door glass i need a windshield a local junkyard has one but it has a chip in it.the clear windshields dont have that blue bar running across the top just a thin black rim around the windshield. these pics are of the stamp on the bottom middle of the hatch one is green the other clear
i also have an oddball rear end i think it came out of a 82-83 berlinetta its a disc rear but it has 1 1/2 - 2 inch spacers where the tourqe arm mounts to the diff, the bolts go through them whats with that?
ironically enough, i have a set of the non-tinted non-a/c glass, but it's just the hatch and the door glass, the windshield of the car i pulled it from had a crack in the windshield as well. As mentioned, i've been informed that it was non-a/c cars that had this glass.
On another note, not that it's sought after or "rare," but the base model 2 gauge firebird dashes. I've seen a couple hundred firebirds in person, and only see this setup once. It looked very reminiscent of the 2nd gen firebird dash. I like it except the fact that it's a huge speedo and huge gas guage.

83 Daytona 500 Trans Am pace car, 1 of 2500 built, will be revived...pics coming soon!
92 Heritage RS Camaro, one of ~8200 in counting, will hopefully be running in time for NYThirdGen 4th of July car cruise on Deer Park Ave, LI.
One of the rarest parts to get now is the 25th anniversary deck lid badge. i have only found one nos and i paid a pretty penny for it and seen used ones go for as much as 150 dollars on ebay...
and The Yellow 87 iroc I have has the 160 speedo. Dono if the factory did these or if somone bought it and did it. Searching here a few people have them in the yellow 87 iroc's

The dash you are referring to was the Base Dash from 1982-1987... I know it was dropped somewhere between 1987 & 1989. The interesting thing about the dash is it is the only Firebird dash that uses a Cable driven Speedo instead of the Electronic Sppedo after 1985.
How about the clear GM headlight covers for the "E" series cars mentioned earlier? They were also offered through the GM parts system for domestic Z cars and fit the 82-84 nose. Or how about the direct fit Dana 44 offered to replace the factory 7.25 unit in heavy duty--read showroom stock--race applications distributed over the counter as a replacement part? Perhaps the "first design" Cross Fire air cleaner that was recalled because it allowed water to collect around the studs and drip into the throttle bodies causing hydrolock in 82 model cars. Oldtimer.

How do you tell the difference between the first design, and other designs? I'd like to know what mine is. I'm guessing maybe it's the kind with the recessed holes for the air cleaner hold down nuts. I've seen other kinds that aren't like this, but from my experience more so on Camaro's. I just figured they were Camaro only, and the recessed kind were Trans Am. Mine has the recessed holes.
I do not know if the Pontiacs were involved with the recall or not. The Z28's were. The recall that I know of affected 82 models for sure, and I remember that it was probably in 83 at the latest. I had an LG4 car, but both my first cousin and another friend had Cross Fire cars that had the recall done. You have hit on the differences, in that the original units had depressions beneath the stud nuts. The replacement units had bumps and, I believe, hollow style nuts. The LU5 cars had the functional air induction, and it was very possible for water to enter through the hood flaps, too. Water could pool up in the depressions in the air cleaner housing and find its way down the studs into the throttle bodies, potentially leading to hydro lock. Neither of the cars in our group ever had the problem with either air cleaner. However, my cousin did remove the factory breather and reinstalled 2 Cal Custom chrome air cleaners. This did take some doing as I recall, and he did indeed hydro lock the 305 by washing the engine compartment with this set up on it. No problem. He just pulled the plugs and spun the motor over. Presto, no more problem. Luckily, no damage to the motor took place. He took out a huge tree stump and about 150 feet of chain link fence after spinning off the road backwards in early 1984, totalling the car. That's how I know the recall was before that! It was a real looker, too, and somewhat rare. His was black with the gold ground effects and wheels. It had the camel custom cloth interior with the ls Conteur seat, T tops, four wheel discs, and the Cross Fire motor. Thanks, Oldtimer.
I have an 83 Z28 (LG4) with the factory SMC hood. It was recalled as well. But the recall called for an inspection of the hood to see if there was any separation visible. Mine did not have any, so they did not replace it. Which I am very glad for. Love the SMC hood.
I believe the switch in 84 to the steel hood on the Z28 was a combination of the delam problem on the 82-83 as well as the difficulty of getting an acceptable fit and finish on the plastic hoods. I once watched an idiot crack his original hood at my parts store. He insisted on using lift supports from a steel hood car on his plastic one. They do look the same, but the pressures are way different. Oldtimer.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned any L69-specific parts yet!
They might not have been produced in low numbers (in total) but they are getting pretty damn hard to find now. Stuff like:
- Air Cleaner
- Scoops + Ducts for said air cleaner
- "better" exhaust manifolds
And there is the other stuff too, like:
- 1LE Aluminum Driveshaft
- 1LE Baffled Fuel Tank
- Fibreglass Z28 hood
- Aluminum Firebird hood
- T10 4-speed Transmission
- V8 T5 that works
- Any T5 that works
- Mechanical Clutch Linkage parts
But like I said... most of this stuff was never rare 10-15 years ago, but it certainly is now.
Rofl, half of this stuff I just pulled off my 15th Ann. T/A, I'm not selling them though since they're original to the car.
Air cleaner and all the ducts are hard to find most definitely, especially the special lid for the air induction.
A really hard to find one I've noticed is the actual air induction assembly in the hood of the early birds, I've seen those sell for quite a lot of coin.
1990 Firebird Formula Stock TPI air cleaner
1985-86 T/A Deluxe leather steering wheel (in decent shape but could use a rewrap)

1990 Firebird Formula black nut covers for the door cup holders
Does anyone know where to get a rear hatch with the rear wiper hole and motor attachment with glass and working defrost. I would really like to keep my rear wiper in my 82 TA because it was kind of a weird option but I think my defrost is messed up and I can't find a hatch with the rear wiper any where.
I have a pair of those G.M. original headlight cover's. Yes they are rare, and yes I had to pay for them. As for the Dana44 rear end I would travel far and wide for one. I wonder if that is the rear end that 91Ls1T56 has? Man this is an old thread.

Just saw an 83 or 84 Z28 in a junkyard with the rear wiper option

You can replace just the glass... ITs not a huge deal, but you simply take the hatch off the car, flip it over on a carpeted table, remove the plastic trim piece (phillips #2 screws). REmove the screws that hold the trim band that goes around the back window, Then start removing the nuts on the hatch that hold the hatch on, I think they were 13mm.
You have to split the hatch from the glass because they used a Urethane. Its not impossible, and if you find a good glass shop they should be able to do it for you if you found a good glass in a junkyard.
OR you could buy any hatch and drill the hole for the wiper, paint to match and go from there. I want to think that they all have the mounting points.

I have a 4th gen rear and a moser 9",no dana 44. how did you come up with that ?
How rare is a 1988 firebird z-20 ? Where can I find parts
I would think that's going to be a rather hard to find pieces for. Unfortunately there were not many Z20 cars made, and it was a single year offering.
If I would have to guess by the number of cars I have seen on here and in person I would gather its probably fewer than 500, but that is by no means a legitimate number, it could be as many as 10,000, but considering I have never seen one in person, and only by rare chance does the topic come up i would think there pretty uncommon.
I want to think someone was considering making replacement parts for it, but I know nothing of whether or not it actually happened.
you can try hawksthirdgenparts.com or some of the other advertisers here on thirdgen.org and see if they have anything.
Can i see pics of some of these things? L69 snorkel, head light covers, etc... please. Im new to the third gen cars and jus wondering what some of the rare stuff looked like in case i got lucky and ran up on some. thanks alot

Oldtimer you're right as '83 was the last year for the SMC hood. And I had to go through the paper catalog at Advance to show the counter person there were two different hood supports. I ended up going to NAPA as I wasn't sure they would order the correct ones.
An item that might be considered uncommon are the factory accessory louvers for a rear wiper car. Looking back through this thread and posting on another made me think of them. They do look somewhat odd because of the extra clearance for the wiper. I can't ever remember seeing a set for sale.

How about the turn signal pod and wiper control pods from an 84 berlinetta? I've got both rite now but how well they work depends on the time of day and alignment of the sun and moon.
My car also has a factory rear wiper option and rims that I assume are berlinetta specific.
I've got a set of the clear GM headlight covers, but not the clips to install them! Am not sure what these clips look like. Can anyone help with photos or info?
