3.45 gears? the best?

I have a '89 Iroc-Z,G92(dual cats, 3.45posi,cooling lines,5spd305tpi,) I was wondering what the difference is between 89 G92 305's and earlier and later ones. IT says it makes 230hp at 4600rpm 300ft/lbs at 3200. Other years w/ 3.45 &3.42 is at 4400rpm. Does it allow for higher revs. It also redlines higher than other Iroc's I've seen. Is this the best combo ever offered in the IRoc years? I think it is. No slushbox for me please.

There's nothing special about the 3.45 gear 305 5-speed other than the L98 cam and the dual cats. All 89-92 G92 cars got this. The 3.45 ratio rear end is a 9-bolt, which is a little bit stronger than the regular 3.42 ratio 10-bolt they put in the later thirdgens.

Why does it redline at 4600 not 4400 like the rest of the years? Just curious.

Don't confuse redline with peak hp.
Your redline is 5500rpm, just like the 350
and other 305/5spds.

However, the dual cat 305/5spd was rated at
a peak hp of 230 @ 4600 rpm as opposed to
4400rpm on the 350/305 5spds.

This is attributed to the dual cats, I would guess. The 3.45 has nothing to with the peak
rpm at which it occurs.

88 IROC the best RS ever made!
well except for the B4C
