I'm sure there are some that will tell you to leave the LO3 alone and save for a 350 because if you start sinking money into the LO3 you will be an "UnHappy17yearold". Personally, I think it's a good engine to mod and learn with. I plan on modding my LO3. If you are strictly after horsepower though and not the experience and joy of building up and modding your own engine, I would have to say save for the 350. If you want more info, talk to the guys on the TBI board; they are much more experienced than me. One last thing, is that LO3 you are talking about in the 88 Trans Am????
thanxs for the reply......i dfinately want to swap for a 350 but i am not finacialy challenged at the moment...I would like to use my LO3 to learn because it would give me great satisfaction to do most of the mods on my 350....yes it is from an 88 trans

The L03 305 is a great every day driver engine. 170 horsepower at 4000 rpm, 255 ft/lbs of torque at a low 2400 rpm. GM didn't intend this engine to be a real performer. The camshaft has a low lift, the whole exhaust system is choking the engine. I personally think the engine is worth moding. It's not going to be a 350 TPI but it's gonna beat alot of cars out there on the road modified. Try the free mods first, then go for things like exhaust. Get a rebuild, change the cam, get some stronger valve spring and definitely get a open element. The L03 is a great daily driver and a decent performer and I say stick with it until you really want a change.
