I am considering some t top sun shades. Are they factory equipment or aftermarket? Also could someone please post pics of them installed? I would like to know if my head will rub them when they are pulled shut and how far do they hang down when rolled up? Also are they a roll up thing or a hard peice that you clip in?
They are hard inserts. They were included from the factory (Scott says they werent. Id guess he is probably correct...so lets say Dealer) for owner installation.
Here are some factory ones that I recovered to match my headliner when i did that. I might have a pic somewhere on my other computer of them in the original color and fabric, I will check and see.

I believe so. They were available as an over the counter option or as a dealer ordered part. Some cars have them because they were ordered with the car. Unfortunately, Chevy didn't include these with every set of ttops ordered. I have seen some SPID labels with them, but most don't have it.
Yes i do have C&C tops. Now you are probably right and they wont fit. However cutting them down might be a possiblilty. Does anyone have the demensions handy so i can see the size differences for my t top conversion car.
All three of my Formula T-top cars came with them from the factory, (option on SPID sheet)... Not on Dealer invoice, it might be an option for Chevy and Standard for Pontiac...
However they were missing when I bought 2 of the 3 cars I have owned.
Came with my trans am from factory not dealer. Funny thing is they sag like the rest or GM headliners. Thats probably why most of you that bought your car used did not have them still.
How do they attach? And did they come in every colour?.... Still looking for the dimensions for these things. And what is the gong price for a nice set?
I have seen them in Red, Black, Grey and Tan. A buddy of mine sold a nice pair of Grey ones on eBay for $7x.xx . But I recently saw a pair of Balck ones only go for $16.xx so hard to say.
My 91 Firebird came with them. They were laying in the hatch in the ttop bag.
They're just about worthless really, at least in the 91 Firebird application. The lexan ttops are tinted so dark that the sun doesn't glare through them like glass. They're a PITA to install and remove, they have to come off everytime the ttops come off, then you have to store them. I'd say they're about 5 times more useless then the factory cupholders.
They attach pretty simply, one edge slips under the plastic molding on the ttop, the other edge is held up by two 1" round velcro tabs placed in the corners. Since they weren't installed by the factory and as anyone who has dealt with velcro can attest, the velcro tabs don't last long. For that reason the velcro isn't always there. Mine still have the velcro, but the backing has never been peeled off for them to be fastened to the glass.
I found a set in the junk yard, $10. When I had the headliner done he recovered the shades as well as the sail panels. They squeeze inbetween the glass and the plastic trim on the t-top itself. I did not use velcro or anything else. So not to have the view obstructed when they are not in. When I unlatch the Tops I just lift em out with one hand palm up under the panel and glass, and the other hand on the outside edge. Then I put the top w the shade still in place into the bag in the trunk. They are great in the summer, they keep your car much cooler. I leave em out in the spring and fall, keep em in the summer and winter. And they are really usefull, Keeps the temp down inside your car in the summer!
Well like i have said my C&C glass to tops are different size as the factory ones and all of the hardware is different. But the tint on them is just a little lighter than factory and my car is black. I am considering them because they may help block me from the scorching sun in my already burning black car.
I would find a set at the junk yard and try em out. Most likely your gonna have to get them recovered anyway. So if they need to be trimed to fit for you car, do the trimming before you have them covered.
I'm seeing a lot of replies in regards to factory sunshades. I hope you guys didn't interpret what I said as "They aren't factory". GM did have the ttop covers available over the counter. I don't know the details for Pontiac, but Chevrolet did not give a set with every ttop order. You could order them if the car was special ordered or if the dealer decided to order the car that way, but most of the time, Camaros with ttops didn't come standard with the shades.
Classic Industries sells these - they're about $40-$50 a pair. Mine's original and in mint condition - no sagging, etc after 20 yrs in my 86. I personally like them but they are a pain taking them in and out (but so are the t-tops and that's 90% of the battle). Here in FL they're great when you're sitting in traffic in the hot sun.

90% of the battle! Do you mean that it is hard to take your factory t tops out? I guess i must be blessed with my aftermarket C&C conversion. They go in and out like butter, and they lock in real tight real easy. What about the ones on Hawks or Fbodymotorsports? Are their prices too high?
You really can't beat junkyard prices, I only paid $10 for em. And the guy who redid my headliner didn't charge me extra to cover them. It would be very easy to cover them yourself too.
I believe the cars & concepts t-tops are a little smaller if I remember mine correctly so I think you might be able to cut them down.I would try to obtain some cheap ones to check.
Go to almost any upholstery shop, and see if you cant get some cardboard that they use for lining trunks. Then cut them to any size shape you want, cover them and then use them. Then it will work BECAUSE you made them work.

I know this is an old thread but thats what i did to make my sunshades and it came out perfect..they are nicer then my headliner.
heres a pic of them in the ttop. mine just sit in the lip on the ttop and then lay on w/e that center divider is called, no velcro needed
That is exactly what I did for mine, made them bigger, they sit on the headliner... I painted the top side Silver, it made a WORLD OF difference in the heat department, over the Black they originally were...
I need to cover mine... I just left them bare cardboard.... (It was black, so no one has ever noticed)
Thanks for sharing.
