86 z28 camaro convertible

I have this vehicle so I was just wondering if it came factory or not?? It has everything that a factory 87 would have.

no. Technically none of the thirdgen convertibles are truly 'factory'. The GM authorized cars were converted by ASC, at the same time anyone could send their cars directly to ASC for the same conversion.

BTW 87 was the first year for GM authorized camaro's that would be considered as "factory". Firebird convertibles weren't authorized till 91.

Hey man,
Does your 'vert say anywhere that it was converted by ASC...?

I have an 86 IROC vert, it looks exactly like the ASC ones, and was done with the same parts - but the work was by Choo Choo Customs.
Also, does yours still show up as a Coupe in the VIN...?

Yes there is - but you will not find any info on their Camaro conversions there:
http://www.choochoocustoms.com

They had at least three other conversions of thirdgens - if you can call it conversions. They were mostly appearance/stripe packages;
The "SX", the "SS" and the "TeamCamaro"

Did you look for the conversion sticker in the door jamb (door)? Did any of the convertables 86-92 have a VIN that showed it was a convertable?

Mine does not have a sticker anywhere.
And yes, the convertibles that weren't dealer conversions, in other words, the ones offered from GM (t-top coupes converted by ASC) that started in 1987 - did have a different number in the VIN, indicating that they were convertibles.

I can't remember which number, and what it is - but Im sure someone will pitch in with that info.

I type in the VIN number from My 1987 Z28 Convertible, and yes it list this car as a convertible. Everything that I have read list the 1987 as the first "PRODUCTION" Third Gen. and yes ASC also did the conversion. Hope it answers the question.

VIN- I am positive for 88 up the vins are
coupe 1G1FP87
vert 1G1FP67
I don't remember if 87 follows this though. 1988 only got RPO Z08 which changed the 6th digit to a 6.

My 86 convert. doesn't say it was converted by ASC or CHOO CHOO but then again it was repainted so I don't know if something happened to any of the stickers during that process or what. I will soon be posting pictures of my z28 vert so maybe my questions will be easier to understand...the vin doesn't say it is a vert, but i don't think any of the 86 verts S.E.'s do.
