1984 Z28 Camaro Roadster

A couple of years ago I purchased a 1984 Z28 two seater roadster. It has a door sticker stating it was manufactured for GM and sold new at Timmers Chevy in Pasadena Texas. I have seen a few of these automobiles, but never at a show. There seem to be about 4 or 5 in the Houston Texas area. My question is approximately how many were built in 1984, etc? Can you help?? Thanks for your help!!

No clue as to how many were produced, but I can tell you that they show up quite a bit online for being an aftermarket conversion. Autotrader.com and Ebay are both places where they show up for sale, usually its a base model or Berlinetta Camaro, but occasionally Z28's, Firebirds, and Trans Am's show up too. The company that usually seems linked to the roadsters is ChooChoo Customs, but I'm not sure if they created the conversion kit or if they only installed them or whatever. Maybe you can find a current owner of a similar car that might know the history.

Drew thanks for the reply. The sticker on the driver's door states this vehicle coverted by Autoform (Oklahoma) for GM. Autoform still does Van conversion(s) for GM. Their website also indicates conversion work on Dodge Vipers. Thanks again.

That decal is a bit misleading. GM never authorized any "factory" conversions like that. Those types of conversions were done at the dealer level.

When I was in contact with ChooChooCustoms a couple of years ago regarding my ragtop, I got NO info on them doing any roadsters. All the ones I've seen have been by Autoform.

My 2 seat roadster was done by Autoform out of Elkhart, Indiana. I don't know production numbers but they did them from '83 to '85. I bought mine new in April '84 and production number was 1944. They were not GM authorized but were custom jobs sold new at GM dealerships. See my signature for link to pictures and original brochure info.

Thanks so much for the info and picture. You have a very beautiful Camaro. They are not real practical, but they are fun to drive.

Thanks again!!

I have seen a couple of those around here..always wondered where they came from. As far as practical, who the hell buys a Camaro for practicality?
