AC Delco Freedom II

Where do I get an OE AC Delco Freedom II battery for my GTA?? The second owner of my car replaced it with a non OE battery that finally took a dump and I want to find the OE replacement. I know it's long shot, well more like a snowballs chance in hell, of finding one but I thought I'd ask. The new AC Delco's have the newer style blue lables and the originals had black and white lables from what I've seen in the brochures.

What I would LOVE to find is a company that makes gell cell batteries like the Optima's that are 100% identical to the factory OE batteries on the exterior for restorations and such, I'm probably dreaming on that one though

I'll ask about finding Gatorbacks in a later post

Alex

I doubt you will find a "new" 1990's battery anywhere! I kept the top sticker from the original battery in my 92Z28convt. Like the new "tar top" batteries, someone, oneday will make factory original batteries for our car. Funny thing. A guy in the parking lot where I work has a new rustang gt with what appears to be Gatorbacks! I was like wow, who would put those crappy tires on a new car (unless you are going for the resto look like you). The ones that came stock on my 92Z28 floated like pontoons in the rain. Tire tech has come along way baby!
Perhaps start calling some larger tire warehouses, or supplies and see if they have a set collecting dust in the back somewhere?

I looked around for an RPO UA1 battery because the original one was replaced by the car's original owner. I had no luck in finding one. I guess we'll have to wait a few more years before anyone starts reproducing stuff like this for third-gen restorations.

Gatorbacks? Ya mean like these?

These are my cars original tires, and they look even better since I cleaned them up and gave 'em a spray of Z-16.

I searched for months trying to locate a new set only to come up empty handed every time.

My neighbor bought a 2001 GT and it does have gatorbacks. They look a little different than the original Eagle VRs, the shoulder tread block is slightly different.

Dear *** , I'm not alone. I HAD (had the operative word) 2 correct delco batteries. One died a slow death with alternator problems in the Iroc, the other was put in the Iroc and got replaced by a family member when I wasn't watching.
The new GM batteries are fairly similar but the originals have a white case with a black top with a black and yellow label, the new ones are all black with a blue lable.
A new battery won't cost you anything in a carshow (most of the time). I use new Delco batteries in my cars that I show so at least it looks right. The Kmart a few blocks from my house used to carry delco batterys, but not anymore.

Also check salvage yards. They MIGHT have an old style GM battery on a shelf.

So far, I've found that the OEM style Freedom II batteries are no longer available anywhere. I've tried to go through my Pontiac dealer and also a couple of parts jobbers that sell Delco parts and products.... to no avail. It seems that the new "blue label" Delco batteries are all that's available.

So I keep one charged up for my GTAs to use as needed for shows, etc.
