Hello, this is my first post. I recently got a 1986 camaro on a trade. The vin # says its a 305TPI z28, but there is no option codes card under the hood. Both front quarters say z28 TPI, and both doors say IROC-Z, but how can I really tell without this card. I want to put the car back together as factory specs. Please help.
Open your trunk and under the lid for the storage box with the key lock should be a option sticker, Lb9 will be there if it came with the 305 TPI.
This info is incorrect for an 86. The sticker will be in the center console. If the car hasn't been repainted, look at the door sticker for the tire data. If the car has 16" wheels listed, then it's an IROC-Z. The center console SPID label, if present, will show B4Z. Also, look at the front suspension. The IROC-Z has a wonder bar that runs parallel with the stabilizer bar. There are other ways to tell, but these are the quickest.
The IROC would have a wonderbar bolted under the front sway bar brackets and a Z28 should not. The IROC does not have a 2 tone paint job like the Z28's do. Not sure but since the springs are different on the IROCs the sway bars might be larger than a Z28.
