I have been researching the history of Pace Cars used in the Daytona 500. As you know, some of these were thrid-gen Trans Ams, including the 1983 25th Anniversary Daytona 500 Edition cars. This list is still a few short, but here goes anyway. Feel free to fill in the blanks if you know anymore. I know Daytona used Trans Ams in 1986 and 1987, but I do not know what color they were. I saw your post on the 30th-ta site about my list of Daytona Pace Cars.

My list was short, but that is only because I was listing only the years they had Pace Car Editions or Commemorative cars that were represented by Daytona 500 Pace Cars, such as the 30th TAs. I am trying to see if there is enough interest for a Pace Car reunion at the 2008 Daytona 500, and I am hoping the commemorative cars can be included. That is why I said those cars, or any original cars.

Anyway, do you have any pics of the Trans Ams used in 1986 or 1987 in the Daytona 500? I am still looking for those.

Trans Ams were used a total of 15 times in the Daytona 500. In the press release for the 2002 CE TA, it says that they selected the Trans Am as the pace car for the 15th time. Also, the 1996 Daytona 500 program I have has an article about the pace cars, and it mentions the 1993 Trans Am. It then says Trans Ams were used for the following four years before the Grand Prix was used in 1988.

I am trying to complete the list of Daytona 500 Pace Cars, and trying to track down as many of the original cars as possible.

I already have responses from the owners of the 1996 Black Bird and 1999 30th Anniversary Trans Ams that were used in the race, and I have talked to someone that knows the owner of the 1989 Turbo Grand Prix used in the race. I also have leads on many more cars now.
