He was using sarcasm, as there was not a 1LE Convertible, nor were heated seats available in a 3rd Gen, nor was a M5 available with the L98... The closest thing you could get would be one of the three 1989 TTA Convertibles with Leather seating, or the 1 1992 Firehawk Convertible with a 6 Speed, not sure what interior it has though...

What can I say - first couple of beers after work on an empty stomach and you could say some things shoot over my head
Re: What was the fastes thirdGen right off the assembly line.
A TTA in stock trim with traction and race gas should beat a stock LS-1 with race gas .
My close to stock TTA had no problems against similiarly stock LS-1s that had a lid, exhaust and upgraded tires... I was racing 5 gals of 100 octane though. The 91 octane in Cal is pretty crappy stuff.
Re: What was the fastes thirdGen right off the assembly line.
I also found some more 1/4 mile times from Hot Rod:
91 Formula 350 - 14.45
91 Formula 305 1LE - 14.55
89 TTA - 14.21
91 Z28 1LE - 14.78 -
91 Z28 350 1LE - 14.31
Interesting how the 1LE 305 vs 350 in the Formula is only 1 tenth difference in the quarter, yet the 1LE 305 vs 1LE 350 is 4 tenths. I can't see anything in the 1LE package making the car go faster in the quarter mile. If anything, those bigger gas tanks would weigh it down.
I consider both the Turbo Trans Am and the Firehawk to be factory cars simply because you could order one in *insert small town dealership in the middle of nowhere.* You didn't have to be a friend of a dealer in Michigan or a Berger/Yenko type thing.
TTA vs Firehawk? The 6 speed manual and 3.54 gives a good advantage to the Firehawk. Whether the dual CAI and T-RAM was better than the Turbo intake with single stock filter, who knows.
I never knew that the TTA's were good for torque. I thought like most turbo cars they came alive at higher RPM.
Didn't somebody on TGO mention meeting with a designer of the TTA who mentioned that the cars were dynoed under extreme heat (hot air intake) in order to underrate the cars for warranty purposes from the Turbo manufacturer?
Re: What was the fastes thirdGen right off the assembly line.
Funny thing about the Turbo Trans Ams.
They would run different times fresh from the factory.
One car mag did a 14.2, while another did a 13.9, while Pontiac advertised a 13.5 with a professional driver.
Some new owner's did 13.5, while others did a 14.5.
Most cars seemed to be right around the high 13s.
I installed a boom box in the back of my car, and at Palmdale (I believe about 3500 feet), did a 14.2
While at Carlsbad (right around sealevel), she did a 13.9.
Either way, I was beating GTO and Firebirds with the big 455 engines in them.
The one 13.9 race was against a '70 GTO Judge, which ran a 14.2. At sealevel.
These cars are beasts when you tune them right.
Slight mods can gain some good times.
I removed my cat converter, and the car would get sideways a bit in second.
Same with a custom chip with the cat on.
I believe it's all in the driver.
I seem about average.

Thats a little more than tuned right.... like 274" Stage II awsome car
Here's my GTA with a stock block, crank, rods, TTA heads, intake, headers, ECM (with turbotweak chip), and a little 70mm p-trim turbo to show how tuned stock stuff goes
