Just finished the difficult and time consuming restoration of my 1992 CHP B4C. Just a few more things to do to it and it will be ready for shows. Enjoy the pics.
Yes, it is legal to drive on the streets, but the lights must be covered, decals must be covered and "OUT OF SERVICE" must be placed in the windows. Plus, it must be driven only to shows, no where else. The laws are very strict in California, but if you follow, them your safe. This car served out of the Dublin, CA (bay area division) office from 1992 to 2002 as a pursuit car. I acquired it as a plain jane all black b4c with no police equipment at all. Over a few years, i brought it back completely to original condition. It only has 20, 000 miles on its new engine, and believe me, its still got its pep. It can definitely catch other cars.
Any more questions about my car or b4cs in general just ask, ive learned alot about b4cs over the past few years.
What power train does the car have? 5.0 or 5.7 - trans? auto or 5speed? any specific options that you can share?
Very curious hope I an't looking too nosy.:

WOW!! very nice I have always wanted to see a B4C restored to service condition. you did a great job! where did you find all the correct police gear for the car?
do you have any pics from the start?

Okay I can understand covering decals, lights covered ect BUT then you can only drive to shows? Thats BS. Can't take it for gas, car wash--or to a mechanic? Sounds fishy to me.
Well you CAN drive it to get gas and and minor things like that. What im referring to is using it as a daily driver, which obviously you cant do. It has the standard 5.7 B4C options. The CHP did a lot of custom work on it such as secondary batteries, heavy duty alternator, exhaust, etc. When i bought it looked like it does in this picture. I got most of my equipment used form ex chp cars and just spent a lot of time bringing them back. I have done everything myself aside from the black and white paint job, but as far as electronics( lights siren radios), decals, and mechanical stuff, its all been done by yours truly. A lot of hard work, but definitely well worth it. Thanks for the feedback.

Ah I see. Sort of like some insurance polices for collector cars--there are some limits to their use. My old 74 Formula--I could not drive to work. Most traffic accidents during daily commutes.

You have a long way to go before you pass up the Guru on the B4C's here. You just better remember that!!! Glad to see you made it too the 3rd gen site!!

Hopefully before Ripon. If we play our cards right there could be at least 3-4 1992's there and my buddy will come up with his 2002 by then. Do you plan to go to that show?
Absolutely im going to Ripon. Where else can you drive code 3 through the streets (other than when im working LOL)? Really 3-4? O yea i guess thats right. Lets see: me, you, Ryan Briceland. I know Mark Reiss ( i believe his is unit 2925) wont be done by then. He told me hes got a lot of work to do till hes even to where YOU are right now. Do you know of any other 92 owners? I know theres two at the academy, but where are the others? We gott get them all restored.
After reading through this thread I'm not sure if I can consider what I'm doing to my B4C a restoration or not. You guys are taking it all the way. When I got my B4C the old police stuff had been stripped and the car was in need of TLC. My goal was to restore it back to how it was from the factory, I guess how it would have been before the State Police got ahold of it. But I never considered restoring it to the point that you guys are doing. I'm not sure, would it be worth more?
Well, to me, my police car restoration is not just about its value but just like any show car, bringing it back to its original state. I have always liked the looks of the chp camaro from 1992, so its kind of cool to have one...

You list a 5 speed auto in the side bar. How'd you get a 5 speed auto? 5 and 6 gear manuals, sure...But I haven't seen a 5 speed auto, unless it has a Gear Vendors Overdrive on it. Then it's like 8 gears.
