I found a 1985 LB9 ws6 trans am, in excellent rust-free shape. it has the stock ( looks like it to me ) hood bird of the ws6 cars from 85, the potato masher wheels wearing vr50s, and the performance susp badge in the interior. vin code says it's an LB9 305 tuned port. the original window sticker with the vehicle says it has the performance suspension option. looks like it all adds up.............except the car's ground effects are body-color. the car is maroon, the original owner of the car says that the car was special-ordered with that color, which cost a bit extra. also, instead of the wing on the hatch, it has the wraparound spoiler.
i am not sure, but the few ws6 trans ams from 1985 that i have seen had the wing, not the wraparound spoiler, and the ground effect pieces were gray. I thought all of the 85 performance susp cars were like that, but i could be wrong. i would like to know if it is possible for a perf susp 85 to have come like that. according to the window sticker, it is one. anyone know, cause i don't.
thanks, i'm going to look at the car tomorrow.

The wraparound spoiler was optional in 85, and it was not painted. I dont know about maroon being available (it may have been, trying to think of the color of one of the cars in the 85 brochure) but I think having a single color car was possible. I know my white 85 was white top and bottom (it came that way from the factory), and I've seen black and red cars monochrome as well.
I called my local Pontiac shop and talked to my friend that is in to firebirds, and they said that yes, it could be a monochrome WS6.
I went to see the car today, and it was in impressive shape. They had the build sheet, and the original window sticker. Well, turns out that it is indeed a monochrome WS6, in maroon, which was a color that was special ordered for the car by the owner. The car also has a wrap-around spoiler that is unpainted.
anyway, i bought it, and i love it. drove home perfectly. i crawled all over that car, it is rust free and very tight. The doors don't even sag, which is pretty rare nowadays.
My '85 is "maroon" (actually, code 78 is called dark red) and monochrome. I bought it new. You could specify the color of the ground effects separate from the body. I couldn't get a wraparound spoiler because of production problems at the time, but many '85s had them.

my 1985 blue WS6 had the wing on it also. I did not know what i had when i owned it or i would not have sold it.

Nice find, just some minor details (Im a stickler)
Hood bird and WS6 - no connection, 2 seperate options.
You may have a cowl tag with upper and lower paint codes, if they match, then it rolled that way from the factory. PMD picked up on the fact that some of us wanted a single color for the paint, and it became part of the GTA experience later.
Ground effect color was regimented, only compatible color combos were used, and if you keep an eye out you will see more than gray. As you mention, the mono paint was an ask for, otherwise you get the standard 2-tone.

cameron = hey, thanks!! i did not know that the hood bird could be had sans the WS6 package. Good to know.
I found out about the paint info you mentioned also, the car is factory one color, and it was ordered that way. So, just glad to once again own an 85 ws6-packaged car.
Hey all fellow trans am fanatics! This is my first post. I couldn't resist after I read it. 16 years ago, I bought a used 85 t/a for 5,500., from a local pontiac dealership. It was a non metallic maroon color(factory, though I cannot remember what it is officially called...maybe ''brilliant red''. It was a ws6 car, and the wheels were gold tone in the center, and the lips were silver. It had the recaro seat package with the netted head rests and the badges on the seat backs, and the seats were two toned tan and silver. It also had the wing spoiler, overhead console, and t-tops. I kick myself daily for selling the car. I only had it about a year. I also had a 90 gta years later, but it wouldn't hold a candle to the 85 on bottom end. As best I could tell, my car was all factory, and was only one color. Does anyone know how many cars were built with the recaro package. I'll probably hate myself if I ever find out. I miss that car. If I can find a pic I'll post it later.
Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but do all 1985 ws6 cars have those "aero wheels and spoiler"?
I thought the WS6 package back in '85 was the "Performance Suspension." And does having that badge on the dash indicate a WS6?
The consensus on the badging is that some Y99 (level 2 suspension) cars got the badges also.
Aero Wheels were in reference to the earlier "bowling ball" capped types.
The only wheel for 85 WS6 is the convex TuboTech style. Either spoiler could be had as it was not WS6 specific. Unless you wanted the new style, you got the std wing.

Welcome to the board. I see 85/86 Recaro cars on very rare occasions on Ebay. I have attempted to get build from Recaro and GM with no luck.

How was the GTA tuned? I have to assume it was a 305. And get that pic posted!
