MD8 Stamp on Transmission

Hey everyone, I was just wondering, did all 700r4 transmissions have "MD8" stamped on the passenger side of the tranny? The reason I ask this because i heard from 2 sources that only transmissions made after 89 had that stamp, and i noticed that its stamped on my transmission, and its in a 86 firebird. Thanks.

If this tells you anything, my stock 1983 G20 van built in late 1982 had MD8 stamped in the case.
