I bought a 1985 Camaro a few years ago as a project.
I got it from the original owner.
Its a black, t-top, sport coupe with the F-41 package.
LG4, 700R4
Nothing special but my insurance co. lables it as a "Z Car" on my
insurance statement.
I never really gave it much thought...
Is it posible Chevy made a Z28 without a body kit or spolier?
It can't be a police package with T-tops, so what gives
No, its not a Z28 without a spoiler, the only examples of that are the California IROC that came with ground effects, a base hood and no spoiler. Really there sweet looking IMHO, but your avitar appears to be a SC.
THe fact that the VIN would be identical for a Z28 or a Base SC with a LG4 tells me that they are adding to the premium just to add to the premium, its like calling SUV's SUV's it was a term made up by the Insurance industry to increase the premium. As soon as you add Sport or "Z" in this case to anything or indicate that it is a "Performance" model then you can justify increasing insurance.
So the insurance co. sees the vin 8th digit, H in this case, and just calls it a Z to get more money? That is sneaky!
Not that it matters to me, I just got liability anyways...
I didn't think it was anything special or rare.
Thanks for clearing that up, it always made me wonder...
That's probably one reason for the higher premium is the eighth digit of your VIN being a H.Thier computor sees it as having a V8 and assumes to be a Z28(as Okfoz pointed out the VIN similarity). The Z28 is technically an option package on the Sport Coupe but Chevrolet treated it as a separate model(similar with the base Firebird and the Formula package).Have you brought this to your Insurance Agent's/Company's attention?

I never talked to my insurance agent about it B/C I only have basic
coverage, liability. Its only a fun weekend car. It doesn't matter insurance money wise what they call it.
I was just seeing if there was a 1985 Z28 without a body kit because
my insurance said it was a "Z car" on my policy statement & it
made me wonder.
