The Historic TTA Convertible (Pics), Courtesy of a Friend....

My man Jim was kind enough to share some of his pictures of the extremely rare TTA Convertible. The proud owner of a TTA himself, Jim was able to park next to the owner during the Buick Performance weekend of '07 over by Englishtown's Raceway Park, and nab quite a few pics of this incredible machine....;

Also check out some of his short clips on youtube, Click Here, and Click Here....

Probably a lot considering how overpriced some of the cars are over there.

With that said, I'd pay $10K

I just asked Jim, as the owner of that TTA convertible is a member of his car club, so I'd imagine he'll know very soon which number car it is. He also added the following information....;

"Funny part is the info we gathered from the old site says there was only one made and someone in Mexico owns it but that was not true. Any Pontiac dealer just had to make a phone call and send the car back to ASC for the convertible to be installed. They were doing Firebird verts like crazy back then so it was easy. I think more TTA verts would have been made but I think the sticker on a TTA vert was about 42K!

Back in 89 only guys like Grumpy (not Bruce) had that kinda paper! I know that Lenny owns the TTA vert I met at e-town and Rich Van't Hof in Atlanta owns the other. The rumor is the 3rd TTA vert is the guy in Mexico. But it was a very expensive conversion and I'm sure most Pontiac dealers didn't want to bother as they had a hard time selling the TTA's back in 89 and their sticker price!
"....

-PhillyTurboSix

Check out this add that Jim provided (look carefully at the Special Notice section in the middle of the paper)....

Thanks Jim....!

Re: The Historic TTA Convertible (Pics), Courtesy of a Friend....

I have to admit, I heard the rumors for a very very long time, but never really seen one for myself, just a speculative description of one over the years. The advent of the Internet really opened things up, and hopefully the one in Mexico will be discovered soon. That being said, I'm going to invite Jim to this thread, and maybe he will delve into it even deeper for us....

Thanks again Jim, those are some unbelievable pics, as well as information!

Re: The Historic TTA Convertible (Pics), Courtesy of a Friend....

I almost forgot I have an account here!

I'll give you guys a cool story on the owner ( Lenny ) of the TTA vert. Really nice guy was into vettes. Wanted something rare and knew about the TTA vert. 2 brothers in Cali owned the car. The guys owned a ton of property in Cali so the price tag of the TTA new ( around 40K ) was nothing for these guys. Lenny kept after them for awhile till they sold it to him. I think it sold for what about it sold for new. Lenny had this huge Matchbox collection he was saving for years. He collected them years ago and went after the super rare ones. So he sold the entire collection of Matchbox cars and it paid for the TTA vert! I knew I should have saved all those Matchbox cars when I was a kid and not played with them!

I just bought a Canon EOS 400D so I can't wait to take some pics of the TTA vert again this year. Lenny said he'll most likely bring it back to E town for the show again this year! Make sure you guys come and see it!

As far as a value.. someone offered Lenny 60K for the car and he turned it down. He plans on keeping it a long time

Talk about the old "bait and switch".... show a GTA convertible in an advertisement for a base Firebird convertible!

Interesting about the TTA convertible too mentioned there in the ad.... even the last 6 digits of the VIN is listed.

Re: The Historic TTA Convertible (Pics), Courtesy of a Friend....

Actually Victory Pontiac ordered ALL V6 Firebird convertibles, only ONE was the TTA that he now owns. All four of those VINS listed were V6 (non turbo) cars BTW. (Yes all four were on the list). THe VIN onf the one TTA is the one on the list.

There were 3 TTA's one is in Mexico, the other is this one and the third is Rich Van't Hof's.

Frankie, Except for the seats & Wheels you could get a Base firebird to look like that one in the pic. I think you could have even gotten the 15" spoked rims too...

What I do not understand is the "California Edition" Unless only the V6 was available in California.

I keep kicking myself, as I had quite the Matchbox car collection too. My father most of all is really kicking himself, as he used to collect those old Baseball cigarette cards, he had so many of them, but let them go figuring they would never have any value. Lenny must of had some beauty's (Matchbox), as it's amazing how much they're going for nowadays. I have a few of them left, but with no boxes though....

I think they just mean California emissions. I think back around that time is when California changed their emissions laws.

California has always been ahead of the game, I want to think that around 1967 is when California started with their emissions programs. I remember seeing something about that in one of the car manuals that had special equipment for a car in California... EGR Valve or something.

89 had a Firebird XS, which is likely what they were referring to as 'California' edition. I saw a bunch of them. They were all 6's.

Looks like my car, well except the engine of course.

Hrm, just noticed... wonder what they did for the rear seats? Those wont latch to the factory latches with the tonneau in place as it was made by ASC.
