What happened to the April 1st tradition?

This is in the history board because it asks about history of the boards!

Every year on April 1st the forums would be all changed and everyone could post anything they wanted... guess that tradition is dead?

I believe it would be due to new owners of the site.

More or less that was Dirks doing.

Not 100%, the first year the site switched hands we had a funny April 1 joke. However, I think there are serious logistical and access related issues with continuing to do something like that with a site this size...

How? All we did was have a different forum database or whatever and people posted dumb questions and such... logistical and access related issues??

Re: What happened to the April 1st tradition?

The problem is you need direct access to a mySQL instance, you have to import all the users, themes, etc etc. It is not a small task and I don't believe any Admin here has those rights (no reason why they would, actually). Also, as you may remember, it wasn't always a different database. One year he redirected the site to some ***** board, another year he replaced a common word with THE or something along those lines. In fact you can still find residuals from those days on the board if you find posts from April 1st the right year.

Actually, while Dirk had a hand in the past (such as redirecting to another website), for the past several years, Irocz has been responsible for your April Fool "joke". In the recent years, we did not move to a different database for the prank. BTW, some of us do have server access. The change in ownership does not really factor in here.

So your saying you have the server access to allow us to have our traditional April Fools Day fun Well let's get it rolling before it's too late, last year was really boring as this year is also.

Yup, about half were Dirk and half were me, but it's almost impossible to come up with ideas anymore after doing so many of them and this year we kinda forgot once again LOL! Maybe next year, never say never!
