Newby Question

Hi, I am brand new to this site and so far think it is great with tons of info. I have a question on a 82 Trans AM I want to buy for the wife (She is a huge T/A fan). I found a local car (Detroit) that I am thinking of purchasing for her to play with.
It is an 82 T/A 4 speed car, new paint and decals, very clean interior and everything works (lights, wipers, power mirrors, radio, ect). It has new weld wheels with new tires, it has a new GM crate motor (350 cu - 330hp) with 2700 miles, rebuilt rear end, headers with full flowmaster exhaust, new brakes, and radiator. The only thing that raises a flag is the shifter plate shows reverse to be down and to the left - but reverse is now up and to the left. The car does have a Hurst shifter and I don't know if that is the reason for the new shift pattern or the trans has been swapped. The car is the cleanest 82 I have seen in a long time and I can get the car for $5100.00
Should I buy or keep walking - I know it is buyers market and I do have cash money to spend. The guy started at 6500 and now is firm at 5100. Should I take my money and get something else - or is this a deal. The guy has receipts for the all the parts including the motor - but no transmission receipts.

Thanks,

Re: Newby Question

I'm confused by a couple things. Clearly, the car is not original...are you concerned about the transmission not being original?

also, you've totally lost me on describing the shift pattern. If I'm not mistaken, a four speed would be:

1 3 R
| |
2 4

five speed would be:

1 3 5
| | |
2 4 R

Which one does it have?

Re: Newby Question

The shifter plate shows this pattern

1 3
| |
R 2 4

This is the current pattern

R 1 3
| |
2 4

I am not worried about having an original car as much as a great performing very clean cruiser. What else can I get for 5K? The paint, body, and interior on this car looks like new. Just haven't priced many of these cars and it is hard to place a value on it.

Re: Newby Question

Walk.... Too high. I just had my car appraised and it came back at 4700, even with the Ronal R15's and very well maintained. Andrew
