Correct paint adding value?

Before I woned the car the car had to get towed and the lip on the front bumper got crushed.

The guy replaced it and painted it, well the head light buckets are now red since he did the bumper while he was at it....

The motor is out and soon I want to fix a few paint issues in that area and was wondering if I had the buckets painted if it would help with the value of the car since it would be the correct color?

Also what color was the ID badge just above the radiator area supposed to be? Mine is red and I am told it was black from the factory????

if u had a 68 z28 i would say yes but since u have a third gen camaro i say i wouldnt worry about it these cars are never gonna be worth that much. unless u have a special thirdgen it wont be worth crap so just do what you want with it. on the subject of our cars with the black headlight pockets all i have to say is camaros arnt supose to have black eyes they are supose to give them...i hate the black...color match looks soo much better.

Have you seen what low mile third gens are going for? Camaro or T/A?

There is a guy on here that found a loaded low mile stock 83 for 11k and talked the guy down some, a few other cars on ebay that have been going for around 10k not to mention what low mile loaded 92 Z's are going for....

Not saying they will bring low mile 69 numbers or anything.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

ok those are the rare exceptions dude and besides the paint around the headlight wont really effect those numbers...the most valuable third gens are the real rare ones with the good engines. look at it like this my 89 IROC is a L98 car fully loaded G92 rear end. i ran down all my RPO Codes the only rarer car that year was the 1LE'S they fetch a pretty penny but i paid 2gs for mine running in pretty good condition and its 1 of 1426 camaros with the 9 bolt that year out of over 100k cars made that year then if u figure in some of the other options it has it get rarer. A car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. I love third gens i got rid of a 68 camaro to go back to third gens but i will be the first to tell you they just aint worth that much on average...

Re: Correct paint adding value?

Im not arguing with you, I agree that most don't bring a lot but the low mile stuff is still bringing money.

You can have a 1 of 1 car but if it has 100k plus miles on it its not going to really matter what it was.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

yes now if u are questioning about the value of your car in your side information if its got a 468 in it and all those nice go fast parts its gonna fetch a decent price regardless of the headlight pockets. like i said b4 just paint do what u prefer cause it shouldnt hurt value much if any...

Re: Correct paint adding value?

I just like keeping it as original as I can (minus go fast stuff), it has full power and everything still works, has the original interior that looks brand new ect ect.

Ive been told its worth around 15k right now and more with the new motor, I paid less then that for the car and I know some of thats due to the go fast stuff.

One guy on here found a near identical car all original for 11k with more miles and he talked the guy down some so I know the 15k is not far off.

If most people say not to worry about the buckets then I won't.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

Unless the car is all original, the painted buckets will have no bearing. Since the car is already modified, the headlight buckets can also be a modification.

I really don't understand why we have to keep going over this subject on the value of these cars. The super rare ones have value! The low mile cars have value! The general production car in good shape with lots of miles are going up in value. Again, look at a 69 Z28 or SS. A frame off restored car with 125K miles is worth the same as the car with 25k original miles. The same will be true with these cars as well. As long as the car is the desirable model, it will have value. As far as regular production Camaros, The 350 IROC-Zs and Z28s, the L69 Z28s, and RSs with the V8, will be worth more than the 305 IROC-Zs, Z28s or the V6 RSs. The demand and popularity of a model will bring the higher prices and as these cars are getting older, they are getting more valuable.

The correct headlight buckets would definitely affect the value of an all original car. However, your car is very modified so originality no longer matters. Low mileage ORIGINAL cars are pulling in good money but a low mileage modified car is worth significantly less.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

I'm not sure black or body color headlight buckets is going to matter on much of anything other than an original paint car, or something sold as being a 'correct' restoration and even then thats iffy. You can even have the entire car the 'wrong' color and still get really good money for a car. I did just that with an old brand F car I restored about 10 years ago. The original color was hideous but unique, but I kept it what it was repainted to anyway and still got top dollar for the car. The one who offered the most but had too many stipulations was selling to a collector and I know they read the data tag so apparently it didnt matter too much.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

i agree that some of the more common maros and birds will never be worth anything substantial. mainly b/c of the low h/p #'s of those days. i was watching barret jackson. they had a 78 vette with a 383 stroker in it but the rest was fact correct except for the brakes, tranny and **** like that. they said its value was not being hurt by having a non numbers matching drive train in it b/c they were so underpowered. now that is for certain year range of cars. like the 74-82 vette.i would never do something like that to a pre 73 vette or muscle car. unless i was build a ground pounder like Foose or boyd cottington.RIP.

but to maintain the fact look of the car was important. so paint the buckets the way they should be.

i am doing the same thing to my t/a. i will still have the L69 stuff be functional with an updated drivetrain. my hood will be functional and the overall appearence will be fact.especially my fact paint shceme. and if u have all the original parts, its all the better. stuff like wheels is an easy unboltable part.(is that a word???)

these are the next collectable cars. both camaro z28,I-rocz,formy,and t/a-gta. don't get it twisted. u will all see. so to say that they will never be worth anything is very foolish.

Re: Correct paint adding value?

Im wanting to get a nice low mile loaded 350 IROC in a few years for the wife, she wants to but a motor in it but I think I may keep it original.

Sucks having pretty much a race car sometimes.

Starting to decode the car and it looks like some of the stuff is not factory, pisses me off but i wanted the car for what it is.
