84 TA paint

I have an 84 TA that is dark brown with gold trim. I have been searching for some time now and can not find any info on this color. Does any one know where I could look to get and idea of how many of these were built. I have never seen another brown TA with out the ground effects, and have only seen a couple of pics on the internet. Any info would be great.

Re: 84 TA paint

Sounds like you have a 65-Dk. Gold Met. car with 55-Gold Met. trim. The car should have gold decals. Do you have a tan interior?

I dont think I have ever seen this combo before.

The W62 (ground effects) cars were available in both 67-Dk. Brown Met. and 65-Dk. Gold Met. with 55-Gold Met. trim. In my experience it is much more common to see the combination on W62 cars.

Do you have any pictures?

This is the only decent picture I have. I would take a new pic, but the car is stuck in one of my buildings and covered in atleast an inch of dust.

Re: 84 TA paint

the body trim tag is located next to your fan shroud looks like a metal plate riveted to the support plate your hood latch is mounted to.

you will see as soon as you open hood

Re: 84 TA paint

I've seen one '84 T/A in that color although it did have the W62 aero package. I would think there weren't too many made in brown since its sort of a love it or hate it color on a Firebird.

I've never run across any color breakdowns for early Firebirds. High Performance Pontiac Magazine is thinking about bringing back the "Number Crunching" series back to do the 3rd and 4th-gen Firebirds so maybe that info will become available in the near future.

Re: 84 TA paint

As TAdan indicated code 65 is for dark gold metallic (the L= Lower and U = Upper section of the car). And the code 55m is gold metallic for the trim color. I wasn't sure if the '84s still used the trim tag ,as the '82-'83 cars did, with the advent of the SPID. But those codes would be on the SPID in the glovebox if the correct one ,VIN match, is still in the care. Along with these wheel color would be there also.

Re: 84 TA paint

Well the 84 has the tag and my 88 does not, I just assumed someone had taken it off the GTA. Does anyone have another example of this color? The car sure looks brown to me, I wonder if at some point some one did repaint it.
And I should have added earlier it has the tan and brown interior.

Re: 84 TA paint

I think the build plates were only used up until 84. 1984 was also the first year for the SPID sticker on the center console door.

So the GTA would not have a build plate on the radiator support. The info would be on the SPID label in the center console for the GTA.

I think you are safe calling it "Brown". That is what it looks like to me. Pontiac just chose to give it a fancy name If you need to get it painted just use the color code and the official name and you should be fine.

I grabbed the name out of the 84 Pontiac Sales book.

Re: 84 TA paint

Thanks for all the info guys. I guess my next step is to get it back out of the building and get an engine in it and loose that crazy exhuast. It has been in storage almost since that picture was taken, close to five years this time. The last time I drove it was when we moved from that house to the one we have now and I stuffed in my back building.

Again thanks for the help everyone.
