Re: 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona 500

I put MSD parts and KYB GR2s in. I retrofitted my A/C from R-12 to R134a + replaced my A/C compressor. I cut the smog pump belt just recently to test a theory. I put front flip up license plate bracket. KITT still needs work. He is a labor of love.

sadly due to the recent rain strom my doors froze shut today. but how do fix my crossfire's throttle linkage from sticking other than lubing it like crazy with deepcreek (WD40) that is my only problem with it. its also my daily driver and first car.

Nice car, but for the love of god, DON"T turn it into a KITT replica, it's a rare car in good condition. btw, I am a K.R. fan so I'm not anti-replica, just use something common.

Re: 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona 500

If your throttle is sticking then its 99.9% certain that the brass bushings have worn out. This wil help you diagnose it:
http://carburetor-manual.com/crossfi...ook-p-325.html
You can get parts from:
http://www.crossfireinjection.net/DCS%20About.html

This shows you how to upgrade it if needed:

Re: 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona 500

Your gonna tear apart a NICE Daytona 500 & turn it ino a KITT replica???

PLEASE don't tear apart a piece of history & turn it into a replica car! Sell it & start with a different car. You'll be destroying its value, making it worth less than i is now.

You paid $7500 plus $1200 shipping for a Daytona pace car just to turn it into a KITT conversion? Sorry but that makes NO sense at all!!! You paid a premium price because you have a rare car and to use it for something else is crazy. You probably paid an extra $2000-$3000 just because it's a Daytona car. Also, you would be much better off starting with a regular 82-84 Trans Am anyway because KITT didn't have ground effects so you're looking at some extra body work you could avoid.

I have found that there isn't much common sense in the Knight Rider community. About four or five years ago some KR loon bought a 25 mile '82 Trans Am out of a car collection just to butcher it into a KITT replica.

Another '82-84 T/A bites the dust ...

People in the KR community do actually care for rare cars. There is only a certain few that really don't use their heads. Such as the person in question here. However, that guy with the 25 mile T/A. Last I heard he didn't convert that car.

That's crazy but I think even that makes more sense than this. At least that guy got all the parts he needed such as PMD seats, wheels, fender and rocker extension pieces etc. A Daytona car has none of those parts so this car has about as much Knight Rider potential as any other Firebird. This one just needs to be filed under .

I believe even most Knight Rider enthusiasts would even think this is insane.

LFN AT U wasnt making fun of you. Re-read his response. Honestly, ruining this fine DT500 for a KITT is really dumb. There are so many other suitable donors. You'll be hacking this car up and doing a lot more work than if you started with another car.

Kitt1983:

So you spent $9000 on a high mileage '83 DT500 to turn into a KITT and didn't even get the aero wheels and caps?? MAN you got robbed !! I have seen nicer ones with LOWER miles and the correct rims go for around $5000-6000.We see you are just showcasing your ride,But you won't get much respect around here for what you plan to do to that limited edition car.And as a kitt replica owner myself and a F-Body nut,I can't say that I blame them.If you would have done some homework you could have found a nice regular 1982-83 trans am for around $3000-5000 or so WITH pmd's and the 15" rims and you would have had extra $$$ to convert it.For example,I see a 1982 Trans Am on Auto Trader in California with T-Tops,Tan pmd interior and 15" for $3500.

Don't get me wrong man it's your ride do what you want but you'll be dumping ALLOT of cash into this car,Just to make it look like a KITT.

Either way man good luck on it
