Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

I remain skeptical, as to the validity of this video....

#1, the article...
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1985029/posts
"He even went so far as to completely seal the trailers off once they were full. By butting the trailers up against each other, not even he could go back in them"
#2.....Trailers weren't backed up, although I'll concede, some could have been moved, BUT....
#3.....The trailer in the video WASN'T SEALED. It wasn't even locked. No padlock, no chain. NOTHING.
z#4.....You can see, from the very beginning in the video, there is a hand rubbing of the dust on the back window. Who rubbed it off? A ghost?
#5....There appears to be a track of cat paw (or something) prints up the back window, in the dust. SOMETHING got in there & made the tracks. But if it had been sealed, nothing coulda gotten in. If something had been in there before it was sealed, it woulda died before the layer of dust had built up, to have tracks made in it. So where did the tracks come from?

At the very least, at that point, they opened it, looked, then got a camera & staged the initial opening. But it still doesn't explain the paw print tracks.

Yes, there was a big storage of cars in trailers AT ONE POINT.
"17 of the 21 sealed trailers one-by-one and found a Yenko Camaro with 45,000 miles; a pair of low-mileage 1970 LS-6 Chevelles; a 1972 Camaro Z/28; two 1957 Corvettes, one a fuel-injected car, the other a dual-four-barrel-equipped example; and several other Chevrolet performance cars."

I just don't believe this video is a trailer is part of that collection. If he was putting away '58 Corvettes, Yenkos, '72 LS6 Chevelles & such, would he have bothered with a '84 305 Camaro....30 years later? Not like it is a collector edition of anything.

Seriously......Does a 84 Camaro belong in a inventory like this?
Vehicle Inventory of Stash
1. '57 Corvette-Original fuel injection. Big fuel tank and big brakes
2. '57 Corvette-Original dual quads. Big fuel tank and big brakes
3. '63 Corvette coupe-Original fuel injection. Production number 480
4. '64 Corvette roadster-Original fuel injection. Four-speed. Both tops
5. '67 Corvette roadster-427 with Tri-power. 37,000 miles
6. '74 Corvette coupe-454 big-block. 14,000 miles
7. '72 Camaro Z28-Four-speed
8. '67 Camaro RS/SS coupe-350 and four-speed. Fair condition
9. '69 Yenko Camaro-37,000 miles
10. '70 Chevelle SS454-Automatic with bucket seats
11. '70 Chevelle SS454-Four-speed, bench seat

Ya'all believe what ya'll want, I'll believe what I want.

Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

Wow, after watching the vid and reading the artical and seeing the pictures I had a gamut of feelings rush through me...
the video made me jealous, curious and envious

the artical made my stomach sink, my eyes water up, and made me want to drive up to NJ!

This is purely amazing!
I dont know how many times i used the word beautiful while watching the camaro being pulled off, followed by a HOLY **** or two after seeing the road runner, lmao.

this REALLY is a true car guys dream!
I've always drempt of having a good half million, and going back to the 60's 70's and 80's and getting some of these cars+more and just store them for decades
but, thats not possible, so all that can be done is to keep dreaming...
I'm sure im not the only one with this dream though, haha

So do I. I did not get a response back from anyone when I told them I was local, and wanted to have the car checked out prior to any offer being made. This isn't to say that it isn't legit of course, but, at least get back to someone expressing an interest....

I'm sure I got the VIN right despite it wasn't exactly clear to me. My results:

Quote:
We found 0 record(s) for this vehicle
It did come back as a 85 Camaro, so the VIN I tried is atleast valid.

Stephen, this car had nothing to do with that collection. This is a totally different case of some one else storing up some cars. Unlike the other guy who had the ls6 chevelle's and stuff, there wasn't tons of stuff in the trailer like racks of manifolds, heads etc and stuff like that here in this one. Other then that this one had nothing.

Hey JT, that "we found 0 reports for this vehicle" really could mean the car is legit, he bought it, stored it, and since it never had emissions testing or any other work done on it, there would be 0 reports!!!

I think they opened the trailer by cutting the locks, then a few days later actually video taped it, that would explain the hand swipes on the dust, and "maybe" the door wasnt shut all the way and an animal got in.

Yes, that is the conclusion I'm reaching. I tried two different sources and both turn up no records for this VIN despite that it does come back as a valid 1985 Camaro VIN. Therefore, to me, it would seem the VIN was not registered and would go along with the story of this car.

You got the VIN a bit different than mine, and the assembly plant character (A) in your case would not be correct. It's actually N and would be for Norwood. I also think the following two digits are 15 and not 13 but with Youtube degrading the video uploads, I can see different frames look to go either way.

Speculation and guessing are next-door neighbors. I've yet to see/read anything that unequivocally verifies that this car is a part of the BIG find.

Even if its real or not, if this car really has 4.3 miles it will be worth a nice penny

I watched a "brand new" 84 Z28 with 6 miles on it go for 27K and change, never registered

Doubt is often created out of the thinnest and airiest of materials. Once doubt is in place, saying that the odometer has been turned back and/or replaced to read 4.3 miles is easy. If the car's not real, someone went to a boatload of trouble to fake it. As I mentioned above, the real story will be interesting.

Exactly.

------------------

I don't carry a video camera with me 24/7 for that, just-in-case, "Ed McMahon" moment, lol, which could easily end-up being a "Geraldo" moment, instead, lol. I doubt most people do, and I don't think these guys did either. So, of course, this was probably not the first time they'd opened that trailer.

They were probably there another time, opening trailers and checking the contents of them all, when they found this. They were excited, checking it out, wiping off places to see inside, being all, "ooooo," "aaaah," and "whoa," when one of them probably said, "we're gonna need something to pull this trailer out of here so we can get this car out." And the other one probably said, "this is historic, let's bring a video camera, too." "Great idea." Seems pretty simple.

Regarding the dusty condition inside the trailer, no matter how clean you think your environment is, unless you're inside of a hermetically sealed Clean Room, dust WILL happen, to some extent. And in this case, we're talking about an old, beat-up tractor-trailer that doesn't even look like it was in good condition 23 years ago.

Regarding the "paw prints," look at the size and pattern of them. I'd say a lot of those are human prints(fingertips and thumbtip), probably made by these people the first time they opened the trailer. But still, critters do find ways inside of things like... trailers. They just... do. And with 23 years to try, I wouldn't be surprised if some critters did get inside and leave little telltale "signs."

I admit, I love a good conspiracy like the next guy, lol, and I understand that there's always someone who, for some reason, needs to be the guy who gets to say, "see, I told ya so." But let's let common sense rule on this one. No tricks or mysteries here. I'd say it's the real deal... IMO. And it's a beautiful site!

Ya'all believe what ya'll want, I'll believe what I want.

Those are TWO are different.

I posted both because some people on the site I got the Video off of SPECULATED that they were one in the the same untill some one verified on there that this guy was from New Jersey and not WI like some other people and I had thought.

That is why.

I really should edit my older post.

VIN is 1G1FP87HXFN151528 and it comes up with zero CarFax records.

Watching that video really does make you feel like a kid in a candy store .. I can only imagine how exhilarating it felt to crack open such a trailer for the first time after all those years...

Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

As for the relation to the other event...there is no way. Why would they video opening a trailer for an 85 Iroc but no video of the Yenkos or the Vettes?? I guess its possible this guy bought one of the trailers from that collection, but its very very very doubtful. This guy simply caught word that the car was in there, and wanted to purchase it.

Someone HAD to have peeked into the trailer to see what was in it. He knew what he was buying before he got there with the video camera. The guy that seemed to be the owner didnt seem to give off the feeling that he cared how rare of a situation it was. He could have climbed in there, wiped off windows, walked on the hood...who knows.

No reason to doubt this what so ever.

As for people not getting responses on viewing the car....I wouldnt either!!! He has a rare find, and is probably being very careful with who he lets around the car and is going to be picky about potential buyers. Its going to take him awhile to do some research and get the word out on how he should proceed. Its not sitting out in a yard with for sale signs on it. haha.

Anyway...Ide still like him to get on here and chit chat alittle bit about the car and the story as well as maybe get some more pictures for us. That'd be entertaining at the very least.

Truly amazing! In the video you can see that the car has 4.3 tenths miles on it. A couple of months back there was a thread about a brand new 84 TA that fell off of a trailer at a dealership and ended up at a vo tech school for years. It also had 4.3 tenths miles on it. What are the chances of that?

Looks pretty legit to me. That is how the cars came in on the truck, except for the wheels of course.

Its like stepping back in time as I used to watch these get unloaded all the time.

This car is legit condition-wise, story-wise who knows. I just wish I knew where in NJ it is.

That car had slightly less miles but was a different case and really can't be counted. It was a wrecked car never to be sold to the public and is a serious mess. The Camaro is a mint time capsule that just needs a cleaning, rims, and it's GFX put on. It's ready to begin anew as one of the most perfect (trailered) showcars ever.

That shouldn't give you any indication is isn't legit. The guy posted a video on youtube of an IROC with 4.3 original miles!!!! How many e-mails do you think he gets a days from people wanting to check it out??? Of course, the vast majority of these people are just tire kickers with no intentions of buying the car or thinking they're going to get it for some insanely low price.

If I had the car, I wouldn't be in a rush either. Right now, it's the hot topic on this board and I'm sure many others. I'd wait for the fire to cool a little and the tire kickers will fade away and the legit buyers will still be around.

As a side note, I'll be very interested to see what the car ends up selling for and comparing it to the money he would have gotten by investing the money elsewhere instead of buying the car. Buying a new car and putting it away as an investment rarely produces the kind of return you could have gotten through the stock market or other means and I'm sure this car will be no different.

I dont really see how thats very possible, its not like they drove in with a semi and stole the trailer because why would a chevy dealer have a 68ish road runner? lol
thats the only way i could see it being remotely possible

i can understand maybe the security wasnt as tight at the dealers back then (im thinking if it hasnt been assembled and whatnot it would probably be in a garage bay waiting for it to get done) but thats actually kind of a head scratcher, maybe it is possible.

Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

Then how does the owner have the title if it was stolen?

Also, can we stop the debate on what the financial outcome would be if he invested the money in stocks? The stock market had a major decline in 2001 in which many people lost thousands or ens of thousands of dollars. Now look at 2008 an we see a major stock market crash. Again, many people lost thousands to tens of thousands. I know people personally that lost over $300k in the market. Then for those of us that lost tens of thousands in 2001 in pensions funds, 401k or options that never matured, we turn to real estate for investments instead, and for the first time in 60 plus years, the real estate market crashes hard! So in 2008, all forms of financial investments crash except for crude oil and we keep hearing about how investing would have been better. Maybe not for everyone.

Interesting take. That could explain why the wheels and tires aren't on it. I know when the 69 Camaros were new, that somebody stole the crossram setup off one at the local Chevy dealer.

Coming in off the truck, with all the keys available, it wouldn't have been that hard to have nabbed the car or pocketed the keys. Hiding the car for all these years. Either forgetting about it or not dealing with trying to sell/register a stolen car.

Regardless, who ever does end up buying that car is going to have their work cut out for them a) getting it to start and b) getting it to run smoothly.

Wouldnt the engine be locked up anyway?Unless someone went in and turned it over by hand periodicly It would think it would need to be rebuilt.Could be wrong just seems like a long time for an engine to be stored.

I doubt it would seize up, but i would NEVER attempt to start it with 20+ year old oil and fuel in the systems
if I bought the car i would pull the engine out and clean out what would probably be sludge out of the oil pan

The roadrunner is a 1970 can tell by the Superbird style taillights. Personally I would go after the Roadrunner for now and keep the IROC quiet until the value goes up.

Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

I worked at a dealership before, they had so many cars if one were stolen they wouldn't know for at least a year when they did inventory. As a matter of fact they took a few cars and got away with it. The only problem is they have no title, which then they paruse Ebay and buy a crap box 1985 iroc for $300 and switch VIN's...presto they have a new car. This looks exactly like that, except they didn't get to this one. They may have been locked up in jail, whoever owns the property where the trailers were stored got tired of not being paid and sold the trailers to the highest bidder. I've seen it happen. I know alot about this because Im a cop. The dealer that the car was taken from gets the full value of the car (Insurance) so they don't loose and it's one less car they have to sell. If your'e wondering how they get the car of the lot...the low paying porters sell the keys for $500 and they usually are the ones who park/move the cars when they come off the truck. That's why that one wasn't preped. The porters see the stock that comes in, makes their calls, get a buyer and then move the car to back of storage lot and hand over keys to buyer. You know how many times this happens at Big Dealers? Alot. I remember test driving a 1989 Turbo Trans Am in 89' The salesman was so busy and sold alot of cars, He pulled up car and told me go to light and make a right and cirlce back around. He didn't come with or really even care. This stuff happens all the time. It's a car dealer not the FBI, CIA you're dealing with at dealers. That big dealer I know has problems with cars going missing in the summer, it's a busy day in the summer, someone just walks into the service prep area there, looks at the key board and leves with a new car. Cars they took were...a Z06 vette, Ram air TA, and Cadillac XLR. All those car (different brands) were taken because they are a Chevy, Pontiac and Cadillac dealer all in one place. Nice if you're a thief you have your pick. The dealer is located in Northwest suburd of Illinois if you're wondering. I'm not making this up either. Another reason I know this is because I had to go pick up a new 1990 Iroc-Z (blue color one) that had 10 miles on it from the Mcdonalds down from the dealer. The idiots drove the Iroc their and left it in the parking lot, in the handicap zone. The only reason it was reported is because so old person couldn't park in handicap spot. They also noticed the car didn't have handicap plates, really? It had no plates at all. Yes the keys were left right in the ignition. I guess the thieves were hungry and didn't feel like walking to Mc Donalds. The car was sold as new and nothing was ever reported or told to buyer of car. When I drove the car back to dealer it had almost 12 miles on it then. On a different note, one of the owners of the dealer has a brand new 1989 Pontiac Trans GTA BLK/BLK 350 car that has no miles that he has stored at dealer and he's giving it to his son when he's old enough. Don't ask, I already tried to buy it and he said it was for his son. Nice car though. As far a that IROC being the lowest mileage car, I call and ask him about the GTA, I think it's got about 3 miles on it. He ordered the GTA, when it got their the truck driver back it off and right into dealership storage area he has and that's where it's sat and not moved since. It's covered with a car cover.
----------
Just in case you're wondering, I stated in the begining I worked at a dealer, I worked days at the dealer and worked midnights doing police job. Those were long days 9-9 at dealer and 11-7 at police job. Made alot of money though and had 7 cars then. Buick Grand National, GTA convertible, 1970 Trans Am ram air auto car, Mercedes 560 SEC, 10th anniversary Trans Am 4-SPD, 1989 20th anniv Turbo Trans Am, 1988 Chevrolet Corvette anniversary edition...

Re: Video of BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!

Yeah, rumor is there's a '91 Firebird with 20 miles on it in a barn not too far from my house. I guess it's bounced around a few place since it was new. I know of a few people who have seen the car and said it's legit. While I have talked to the person who has it, I have never seen it in person. I guess the interior is in fairly rough condition from sitting in a barn for years with the T-tops off but outside of that it's a really nice car. I figured something had to be up with the car but nobody seemed to know the story behind it.

One of the guys who has seen it said the car was stolen off the lot when new, driven to about the area where it's at now and that's where it's sat all this time. It's bounced to a couple different places but all in the same area.
