.... are you sure your not confusing the article with the SLP Firehawks? I never heard of a red '89 TTA, a red convertible clone does exist though.

Bare with me guys..I am new here.I tried to just go back..and find the article..Lets put it this way..I searched'''on my computer the the rare red Firebird..I am not too computer smart..But if you search you will find it.Its what brought me here.
OK.I went back and it is under 1989 Pontiac Firebird and '89 Pontiac Trans Am..It was posted by...dave8412-June 7 2006-1:39pm under 1989 Firebird history..
Interesting thread, but there was in fact mention of a 5-speed TTA though, not all of them were automatic....;
Muscle Cars, November 1989-Volume VII Number 6-p. 69
Factory Hot Rods You Can't Buy...Yet-Pontiac Firefox
Mention of Jeff Beitzel and PAS as builders on TTA as well as Firefox. A few more prototype cars were mentioned including a 5-speed TTA. Same issue mentioned in Other Major Articles....
I think the five cars talked about were (pilot, test cars or pre-production) cars. In addition when they were developing the TTA package there were 13 prototype or development cars of which the 5-speed was part of. Some include the five cars with the 13 and you will see 18 cars as prototypes.
Now..did anyone REALLY tell me who owns THAT RED car?I know..I could not find a laymans terms for it..Could you guys help me if I give you a vin number for mine?
Actually, the color shown is called "Flame Red Metallic". I had an '89 Formula 350 that was this color. I now have a '95 Impala-SS which IS Dark Cherry Metallic. It is MUCH darker. In certain light it appears black, brown, maroon, or purple.
To add to the conversation on the pilot cars, there was at least 2 TTA Convertibles, I personally know the VIN to two of them. There is a rumor of a third in Mexico, which I could not get the VIN to because they do not have records like we do in the US like CARFAX or Autocheck...
The one thread states 1 of 1 is all, another thread stated 5... I found 2 and possibly a 3rd in Mexico...

The one in Mexico is a myth, some magazine article back in the days said the 1 of 1 was sold to a mexican oil baron but in fact was sold to a big car collector in Georgia and then to bigdoggtta .... I've seen and sat in that one. Another TTA converted by (sent to ASC) by the CA dealership recently move to a new owner about a year ago in PA .... the 1 of 1 was one of the 5 pilot cars sent to ASC for conversion by PAS who built all the TTA's for GM.
There's potentially more convertibles as any dealer could send pretty much any Firebird to ASC to be converted so if there's only 2 or more I don't know but I suspect there's at least 1 more out there .... if you got the VIN's of some of them let me know and I can check with the owners of the 2 I know of that definitely exist and see if that's the two or if they are different ...
And for the maroon 88 mule car pictured above ... it drives great ... I had the pleasure to take it for a test drive a number of years ago unfortunately before the owner acquired the black emission test car ... oh and the 88 maroon mule got a digital dash
