We can't get you guys to buy TGO tshirts that you each can wear and have for your own. How do expect TGO to find 150 people to shell out money for a car most may never be able to use? While a great idea, I can guarantee that it won't happen.

True True it was more of a "idea" then anything. Just hope this car goes to a good home and somehow ends up on here!
how's everyone gonna feel if someone buys it, and decides he's gonna start driving it?? some would argue that it was born to run, while others in this thread feel it should be set on a turn table and never touched. soon that choice will be in the hands of one person, and if he decides to drive it from coast to coast, no one can stop him
cable drive odos since about 1969 have a ratchet in
them so they can't be turned back by turning the
cable backwards(with a drill etc.)to roll back the
milage. With electronic odos, the speed sensor works
either way, so those will register milage if turned
backwards

I'm confused
Cable Odometers- Can't be turned back, AND don't register reverse mileage.
Electronic Odometers- Also can't be turned back, but registers mileage forwards and backwards.

That's definitely not true. You can definitely turn back at least the early thirdgen odometers with a drill. They may have changed it at some point but I know for a fact the early ones could be turned back that way.
This IROC is an '85 and I'm almost positive the mileage could be rolled back that way.
I'll 2nd that. I swapped out clusters on a previous 88 Camaro--took it to a shop and they changed the mileage on the new cluster to match the old one. They used a drill

So far, all of you are partially wrong, and some are partially right about the odometers. I didn't mean miles turn back in reverse, they just don't add up. They can be somewhat turned back, but the miles won't go back, only the tenths. For example if the odometer reads 00004.3, and you go back 1 mile, it won't go back past 4.0, since there is a ratchet in there preventing the tenths from turning back past the 0, so really the furthest you turn back any odometer would be .9.
Ca[maro]88, I'll put my 5 bucks on 37,500. I don't think it will exceed 40g, only if it actually appeared to be in the perfect condition that it could potentially be in.
i know you can turn it back with a drill, i put a speedo out of a higher mileage car in my freinds camaro and i turn it back to match his numbers
but anyway i agree he needs to atleast clean it up, the markings take alot more than soap and water to get off, and you can wax around them if need be, also hell a set of OEM wheels, about 250-500 dollars on ebay, cheaper if you look around
this guy is a retard, he could invest 1,500 in it and probably have a clean running 85 iroc with 4 miles what a jacka$$
THIS IS ABSURD....NO IROC EVEN A FOUR MILE CAR IS WORTH 50 GRAND UNLESS ITS A GM PROTOTYPE LIKE THE ONES THAT SOLD AT B-J. A DT500 with 20 miles on it sold for 23 grand a year or so ago at an auctionhouse. AND THAT ONE WAS PRISTINE NEEDED NOTHING!
I'd be surprized if it topped $30,000. Hell, the 84 z28 with 7 miles on it that was on barret jackson a while back went for I think $27,000 and it was pretty much a turn key.
....not to mention the last camaro that was built at Van Nuys, they sold that one i believe for near $50,000 at Barrett-Jackson!....(was a few years ago when they did that, plus the car had all the builders signatures in the body)....so i wouldn't be surprised what the final bid will be...

I saw that car in person at B-J and I would much rather have it than this IROC, even at the inflated B-J price. It was mint and had the desirable L69 engine.
Even the 20-mile DT500 mentioned by L695speed is better value than this.
No offense is intended to anyone here, but my opinion is that if anyone buys this questionable condition car for the current bid or above, they are a fool. There are better cars with extremely low mileage available, if you are willing to be patient and look.

Isn't that car still owned by the original owner, Leonard, a member of this board??

The last Camaro built in Van Nuys in 1992 is owned by LeonardS. He bought the car when it was new. He toured the Van Nuys factory to see his car get built. He still owns it. It hasn't been on Barrett-Jackson. But you're right, it has signatures from the factory workers throughout the car.
I recall Leonard did list the car on eBay, several years ago, but he didn't sell it. I think Leonard changed his mind and decided to keep the car for the time being.
Leonard's reserve was $50k on ebay. He had it as a buy it now price. I've offered a few times and I'll offer again.....Leonard, I have $14k set aside to buy your car. What do you say? It's worth more, but this is all I have.
even though it looks that bad (dust and bad wheels) under that dust is still very nice NOT FADED paint. the clear isnt faded its perfect. it SHOULD have stored better. MUCH better, but it wasnt. i think if somebody is going to buy this car they could care less if it runs or not. its going to go on display somewhere and itll prolly never start.
but lets say i bought the car. id get it to start, and id put it in reverse and drive down the street once (reverse so the miles dont go up) that way i can enjoy it for 30 seconds. id put desirable OEM wheels on it, clean it perfectly, keep the plastic on the interior (i wouldt even get in it unless i JUST took the clothes out of the dryer and id take my shoes off and id be wearing brand new socks) and id store it (the right way) then sell it in 20 years when im in bad need of money lol. in 20 years that thing will prolly sell for just as much as a baracuda would in 2009 if it had 4 original miles. this is our future classic car that and mustangs and corvettes etc.

It's a really fund idea - I bought sweatshirts for both my wife and myself and I think we'd be in. Funny thing as well is that we don'e have kids and were just discussing what to do with my LB9/5-speed '88 GTA.

I would have guessed the reserve was $17k to $20k but now I'm thinking it must be at least $25k.

I know that it is part of the roof console, but what do the numbers do?
The numbers are simply to keep track of mileage, manually, for whatever purpose the driver has. You must manually role the numbers to whatever mileage you want.
My IROC has the DK6 interior roof console. It has two reels. the top one has 4 sets of numbers and when you spin the reel says, medical,arrive/depart,duration,time/date,celebration,appointment,financial,business and recreation. the bottom reel has 5 sets of numbers and the reel says. total, kilometers, miles, chassis, engine, service, trip, range and distance. It has a flashlight that you can remove.
