they offered the 305 HO from i think 1983-1985(could be 86?). it has a better cam, better heads, better intake design(with dual snorkel air cleaner), and better exhuast manifolds than the LG4. its good for 195hp or so. they arent a bad engine, i just think you should find a 350 block to rebuild. you can buy them cheap and you will make 250+hp even on a stock rebuild. if your going to spend the money, i would ditch the 305.

No, the intake and heads are no different from the LG4. Just 416s. Same valve sizes, same everything. But the HO did get flat-top pistons. Elgin does offer the correct cam. E860S.

Re: L69 H.O. Z28 motor rebuild

I'm staying stock with my setup too.
rebuilding for the most part.
I know it's the same price or a little less to build a 350. But it's not easy to pick up a 350 from my searching locally.
I don't want to pay a couple hundred for a motor to rebuild when I got one here.
I'm not doing it for the power either.
Merely because I love the car and would like it to run properly.
Sadly I found more wrong than anticipated.
C'est la vie.
