My car is an 86 Z28 but on the dash badge it says IROC-Z beneath the Z28? Just wondering what that is about. It origianlly came with a 305 carburated with the t-5 attatched to it. If anyone could give me an idea that would be great thanks.
it could be. that was one of the years the camaro was a z as well as an iroc - got the race of champions contract.
another year was 1990 - camaro lost the iroc rights and did the z that year too. but it was a very short year. i bought my wife a new 90 camaro in march and bough a new 91 in may of the same year.
go figure.
From the 1985 Camaro Technical Data from the main TGO page:
"The new IROC-Z option was available on the Z28 and came with new 16x8 aluminum "IROC-Z" rims, P245/50VR-16 Z Rated Goodyear Gatorback tires, fog lights, new grill with CAMARO on front license plate panel, .5 inch lowered ride height, body colored valances, (ground effects) Delco-Bilstein rear gas shocks, special front struts, increased spring rates, special jounce bumpers, 5 degrees of caster in front wheel alignment, (up from 3.5 on Z28) 'WonderBar' front frame rail stiffener, special valving in the steering box for increased steering effort, larger rear stabilizer bar with stiffer bushings, IROC-Z exterior decals and interior "Z28 IROC-Z" dash badge, and a thinner two-color lower body stripe. 'Tuned Port Injection' (TPI) motors are introduced. The Corvette got a 350 version (L98) and the Camaro got a 305 version (LB9) available in the Z28 or IROC-Z. LB9 was available with automatic only. L69 H.O. 305 was only available in the IROC and only with 5 speed manual. L69 production was restricted half-way (April 26, 1985) through the model year."

If i understand correctly you want to know if you have an iroc or just a z28? Best way to tell on a 86 is the door. Open the drivers door and look at the sticker telling you what size tires to put on. If its calling forf 16" tires you have an IROC since no 15" wheels were put on IROCs in 86.

It has the 16" IROC-Z rims on it. The thing that was throwin me off is that is doenst have the IROC-Z decal on the doors guess that kinda seems dumb at this point but thats what it was.
Does the door call for those 16 inch wheels though? Someone very well could have put the wheels and the dash badge on to make it look like an iroc. Does it have the B4Z code in the center console? If it has those two things and all the things mentioned above you have an iroc.
Just so you know in 86 the rocker gfx would only say z28 and not iroc-z. So if the car has been repainted and someone left the door decals off it then i can understand the confusion.
My 86 Iroc has the irocz rocker and bumper emblems but I know they werent on there originally as that didnt start till 1988.All Irocs got the z28 dash badge with iroc z underneath.Check for a wonderbar.Only the irocs came stock with them.Z28`S did not get them

Not all IROCS got the Z28 dash badge with the IROC Z underneath. The exception is the 1985 1C5 "California" IROC-Z28. It's dash badge has Z28 with Tuned Port Injection underneath.

Also with regards to the gfx, the Z28's were two tone (body/gfx). The Iroc's were all one colour. Of coarse paint can always be modified. Also along the same line, decals, stickers and wheels are like accessories. They verify nothing because they are so easily changed and modified. Having IrocZ door decals or not, does not prove anything. Need RPO verification (RPO B4Z to be an IrocZ) provided the SPID's VIN matches the one on the car, or at least the door wheel size decal. Also provided that it's original.
