hey guys, just signed up here. im looking into getting a third gen camaro. always loved the way these looked! basically, i found a 90' iroc-z, and just need some info on it. the pictures are attsached and wat kinda engine is that? i have no idea about these cars so iany kind of info will be appreciated. and that rear spoiler? never seen one of those on a camaro? is this a special model or something. all it has are IROC-z and Z28 badges.
it has 120,000 KMS (not miles) and runs decent. has the auto tranny (definately gonna have to put some kind of shift kit on it, cant stand auto, driven standard all my life). the allignment is out. ALOT. basically to go straight u have to have the steering wheel half turned (so the horn is vertical). owner says he hit a curb with the left front tire and it will need about 500$ worth of suspension work? could this be true? paint is kinda faded but not bad. and tach doesnt work. also, muffler is rotted out.
but yea, good buy or not? miles are pretty low. and runs smooth.
It would be helpful if you could post the first 11 characters of your vin (do not post the last 6 which indicate the chassis number). The eighth character is the engine code and should read 8 (for a 5.7 TPI), F (for the 210hp 305 TPI) or E (for the base, 170hp 305 fuel injection engine). The picture of the engine looks to me like a carburetted LG4 style 305. Check out the information on this site or any of the others dedicated to the IROC's. You should be able to find everything you need to help you make an informed decision. Google iroc camaro or iroc z and you will find lots of information.

Reason: spelling error
It looks like an Rs dressed up like a z28.. A 305 tbi is what I See right guys?
It seemed like its been messed with way to much.

If the car were a true 1990 IROC-Z it would only have the (LB9) 305 with tuned port injection or the (B2L) 350 with tuned ported injection. The IROC-Z decal on the door should also be at the rear of the door and not at the front like the 1985-1987 IROC-Zs. Someone has already noticed the rear spoiler being off a 1991 or 1992. Wheels also came off an IROC-Z and were put on this car. I also think its an RS not an IROC-Z.
ok thanks for the input so far guys! .. so i went and got the vin number .. which reads: 1g1fp23e8ll .. excluding the last 6 digits.
so guess its not a real IROC then hey?
think im gonna skip then. good copy tho! looks like a real IROC to the 'untrained eye' for sure haha.
and with 120,000 kms and an asking price of 4000$ ... seemed too good to be true anyways.
The (E) in the vin means that the engine is an (LO3) 170 HP 305 V8 which was an option available only on the RS coupe and convertible in 1990. No IROC-Z.

yea exactly. oh well the search continues.
found another. with 223,000 kms. 1990 REAL irocz with the 305 tbi and 5 speed tranny.
is the mileage too high? how long do these cars run? this one seems to be in pretty good shape tho.

hes asking 4,000$ CAD. how much should i offer?
If it has the TBI and its suppose to be an original 1990 IROC-Z the engine has been replaced because unlike other years of IROC-Zs you could only get the LB9 305 with tuned port injection or the B2L 350 with the tuned port injection in 1990 IROC-Zs.
Thats a different car than the one in the pics above.
i know .. its a different one. if u look a couple of posts above youll know what im talking about. we already figured out that the one i originally posted aint an IROC .. so i moved on and this is another one i found for sale.
I took a look at the car and one thing that I did notice was that it has 1985 to 1987 IROC-Z wheels instead of the 1988 to 1990 style wheels. If it does have the stock G92 option as was listed the rear gear ratio was correct because they went back to 3.42 for 1990 and dropped the BW 3.45 gears. They only installed 2710 cars with the G92 option that year. It also came with the KC4 oil cooler and duel exhausts with the 5 speed trans. It looks like a pretty good car if all the options are stock.

yea im gonna have to go check it out soon and see how its holding up at 240 kms.
wonder why he has the older style wheels?
someone told me that the 5spd isnt as strong as the auto's in these cars? true?
at this many kms tho .. can this be a reliable daily driver?

I think that it is a rare and desirable car, if he includes the 1LE roll bar that is also rare since they weren't installed in the street versions of the 1LE. Check out the engine quality as much as you can. As far as the 5 speed trans I would prefer it over the auto trans in 1990. That was the only way you could get the 230HP LB9 engine and all the other options in 1990. Its a good deal and I would be interested in buying it if it was in my area.
