Help

I have an 87 Chevy Camaro this car is an all in one
meaning it is listed as and I-ROC Z-28 convertible--now here is the the catch... the car has a special edition #260 badge in the car this is not the 20th anniversry edition badge--I have looked thru GM files online and they are not helping....My husband and I are thinking about selling the car and would like to have alittle more info so that we know what we have. The car has an 8 in the vin meaning it is supposed to be a 305 tpi but the shop says no it's a 350 tpi just wondering if any one can help---thanks

Re: Help

Hello. You have it backwards if your referring to the 8 in your VIN as being the character in the VIN's eighth position. If the eighth VIN digit is an F then it's the 305 TPI. An 8 is for the 350 TPI. I would assume that's good news.

As for the badge, I can't recall what it is but it could have been put on by the vert conversion company. You see, if the VIN's eighth digit is an 8, then this vert was not created by ASC for Chevrolet. None of those verts had 350's. This car would have been sent to a vert conversion company independently by a previous owner or possibly from a dealer sending it away.

Do you have any pictures of the vert and/or badge?

Re: Help

you are right I am backwards it is an F in the vin not the 8--I will post some tomorrow of the car and the badge-My father works for GM and he can seem to find any info on this car--seems it may have slipped through the cracks--I can certainly tell you this is a factory vert--the car looks like yours---but is black on black with the Iroc and Z28 decals--anyways appreciate the help--will post pics tom...

Re: Help

8 in the VIN should mean you have a 350 (B2L RPO code). Intresting though that asfar as I know, that wasn't possible with a vert in either IROC or sport coupes. By the way "F" would be a LB9 305.
As far as the 260, I would guess it would have to do with the number made. They didnt make that many that first year. 263 sport coupes and 744 IROCs.
Is it a manual? what other codes do you know?

Re: Help

What you have is an ASC converted coupe. All 1987 factory convertibles received the map pocket labeled "20th Anniversary". The label of "Special Edition 0XXX" were applied to convertibles that were not designated as convertible from the factory. A factory convertible will have a 3 in the 6th digit of the VIN and a coupe leaving the factory will have a 2. ASC did the conversion for both the factory and dealerships prior to delivery. This car sounds like a car that the dealer ordered and had it sent to ASC for conversion prior to taking delivery.
