Someone along the lines painted my car black. I don't really have a problem with that but now that I'm trying to make the car look/appear stock, I wouldn't mind having the original colour on the car. What was the code for silver in '88? Was there more then 1 silver at all? Also, striping/decals. I still have my RPO sheet so knowing what to look for would be helpful.

According to the White Book, there was one silver, code 13. Apparently there were only 1,547 of them. There was, however, a medium gray, code 87. There were 8,628.

Silver was a 85 iroc color and the only year they used it on the iroc , most likely your car was med grey which you don't see many of . The grey I remember had blue stripes and decals . The silver may have been used on regular camaro's.

Just to expand on this a little (applies to '88) . . .
- Regards to Metallic Silver, code 13S / WA 9021, out of the 1,547, none were IrocZ's. Those were all Sport Coupes.
- Regards to Medium Grey Metallic, code 87 / WA 9243, out of the 8,628, that's not the number of IrocZ's with that colour either but actually the combined total of IrocZ's and Sport Coupes. How many of each, I'm not aware of.

True, combined total. As far as I know, a breakdown is impossible--though I'd enjoy knowing. For example, in 85 there were 21,177 IROCs. How many of those were met. silver (are silver and met. silver the same)? Since I've never seen another one up close and personal, I'd say they're fairly rare. That said, the White Book lists 11,684 total. Where the heck are they!

I've tried searching for Gunmetal medium gray IROC's on here and come up with just silver cars. I know of a buddy who's sending me pics of his car so I'll post those up when I get them. It's such an awesome colour. I still can't believe someone painted over it for basic black

I hear what your saying. I've seen only one IrocZ ('85 of coarse) in it's original silver metallic paint. Unfortunitly, that was about 12 years ago, it was in rough shape, not well cared for, and I didn't have the resources to pick it up. I wish I knew at the time what I know now. I think I would have found a way to give her a good home.
They do look pretty sharp.
If you still have the original RPO sheet that matches your vin, read the bottom line it will list the paint codes.
Then you can take that and run that paint code through places like autocolorlibrary online or other paint suppliers and you can order the orig paint color.
I happen to like my gloss black very much however! (It was originally black )
I'll have to wait till I got back to my shop but yeah, thats what I plan on doing. I liked my black as well. Was one of the selling features when I bought it but now that I know the car was originally gunmetal? I have to repaint it

I saw one last year on a trip in colorado. it had 41k miles and had a red interior. it was for sale on craigslist for about 7500$. I would have told my father to pick it up but he said the silver "didnt fit his taste."
I've got the gun metal gray '88 IROC. Was my brother's... Currently 22,000 miles, but I had to drive it to work this week since my Honda is in the ER. Probably be at 23,000 miles by the time the Honda is fixed.
He only used it for golf trips.
Still want a picture?

A 22k mile original gun metal gray Iroc... Yes we want pics.
Here's some pics of my grey IROC Indeed, the blue and black is a factory stripe color I really like, although the silver and grey matches the car a little better...
I really like that color... Personally I think it was ahead of it's time. GM played with it between the Camaro and Firebird line several times over the years and it really looks sharp and stands out from the typical white, red, and black cars. I think it really looked best on the GTA with the gold crosslace wheels, but the Irocs are a close second.
