$30k 140k mi Salvage Title 91 T/A 'vert on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...fCarsQ5fTrucks

This car has been for sale locally near me for over a year -- the guy's been asking $30,000 for it, which I thought was a little steep considering it has 140,000 miles and a salvage title. I've seen the car in person, and although it is nice for a 140,000 mile car, I think he's smoking crack.

Looks like a local specialty dealer has probably consigned it, it's currently at $11,000 with 4 bids and no reserve. Built by Hawk's Third Gen apparently, and signed by Chip Foose although it looks like Foose had little to do with the car.

Although I'd still take a stupid low-mile clear title car over it any day, it will be interesting to see what this car actually ends up selling for. Sometimes it's just fun to see people's bubbles get bursted when they think their car is worth a fortune

Thats a definatly VERY optimistic price..I think this guy spent waaaay to much money on it and now realizes that he will never see the return. I have seen this car in person and by all means its nice but there are ALOT of little details that were over looked..As far as being a $14,000 paint job....somebody went on a heck of a vacation..

The wheels are nice... lol. I think h is very optimistic on his price. If the car were actually ON Overhaulin then it would be worth it....

Re: $30k 140k mi Salvage Title 91 T/A 'vert on eBay

Not sure if it was on Overhaulin or not...

I have talked to people that know Chip Foose, apparently you can walk into his shop (during lunch) and he will actually talk to you, real down to earth person. I have also heard that he will make a sketch of your car (kind of like the one he has there).

I have watched most of the Overhaulin shows, and honestly I do not remember anything like this.

The Black inserts on the Door panels do not match the Gray seats, the back seats look darker than the front seats. The pouch is from an early Trans Am.

That car was in my class at the 2006 Trans Am Nationals. Both doors had huge door dents. It looked like someone took a hammer and beat the center of the doors. It has been fixed as per the pictures they have on the web site. Beyond that it was a nice looking car... $30K??? I do not think so. I was actually surprised that he won the class honestly. The red car in the center was just as nice in many respects...

I think the thing that happened is it was raining that year... Seems almost like every year it rains. So the judges did not have a real chance to look at the cars.

Yeah, I remember seeing the car with body damage as well, and many things that had been overlooked, particularly engine compartment detailing. It just looked like it had the miles that it showed. Ran a Carfax through my dealer acct at work, and it comes up with a salvage title on there too, and suggests a possible case of title washing. Nice.

With that kind of mileage, and that kind of exterior, I'd much rather see a hot setup under the hood instead of a rebuilt 305. Kind of disappointing. Also, the signatures by the overhaulin crew don't add any value to me, nor does the rust spots in the trunk. Other than that, its one nice looking drop top.

I am not going to lie, it is a going looking car. I like most of the customization. Wheels are decent, but nut my style. I think the car is nowhere near worth 30k though. I think it is at most an 8k car just because it looks good and such.

Re: $30k 140k mi Salvage Title 91 T/A 'vert on eBay

Looks like someone else recognized the car....

Q: I thought Bruce from Hawks 3rd Gen in Easley S.C. built this car. Aug-07-09
A: After receiving this remark I spoke with Bruce Hawkins at Hawks 3rd Gen, he tells me that he did build this car in Easley S.C. and to the best of his knowledge Chip Foose only autographed this car. Mr. Hawkins has done an exceptional job on this car as one would expect with his reputation. We apologize if our description has caused anyone to have a false impression.

Re: $30k 140k mi Salvage Title 91 T/A 'vert on eBay

its a pretty paint job, but kinda blah for 14k, if it really cost that much. Probably a 3k paint job 2k in flames and the rest in body work and prep.
And probably the worst hood you could have chosen, It would look much better with the RAI if you had to have a RA hood on it.

The interior is sad, chipped parts, scratched parts, trunk carpet is stained, with rust it seems, trunk plastics are pretty beat. Wonder if the underside is rotted any.

Engine bay is dirty, nothing looks like it was "restored", the strut towers are scratched and chipped, reservoir tanks are yellowed, ect ect.

Its quite obvious somebody paid too much for the car and is trying to off load it for much more that its worth.

yeah the whole engine bay appears to be stock, with all the work done to the outside, you would think they would of put more horsepower between the wheel well.

I dont think its worth more than 10K. Salvage title really destroys the value. It is a nice lookin car tho. Maybe whoever bought it will do a follow up here.

Wow that is crazy. That gives me higher hopes on my iroc convertible my car has over 15k in the motor. I just need new paint and that roll bar and my car would probably be worth more than that car.
