I just checked my car, and a previous owner has switched wheels. I have an '86 TA, not the WS6. The car is suppose to have the 15x7 wheels on it, but after checking around, there are apparently 2 different styles.
Apparently there's the slanted style and the diamond spoke style for this year car. I went through the RPO codes, and I got the wheel size and the color, nothing about style.
It currently has the GTA style wheels on it, and I like them and the car looks much nicer. However, I'm planning on restoring the car and showing it so I would like it to match the codes.
Anyone know of a way to determine which style wheel is suppose to be on the car?
i think ur best bet would be if there's anyway of knowing what your car got, is to get or have the original window sticker...if you can't get that then you can have your's reproduced from PHS (pontiac historic society)...however in order to get your window sticker you must first order a dealer invoice, with that in hand then you have to send a copy of your invoice to PHS for proof and then you can order your window sticker. Otherwise it may become difficult what your car is equipped, unless u can find your build sheet....

The wheel style will be on the SPID label in the center console glove compartment. The Hi-Tech Turbo 15x7 rims were RPO N24 in '86. I'll have to look up the RPO for the 15x7 diamond spoke rims.

I have RPO code N24, now it's off to the auto graveyard to check the 2 f-bodies that are there. See what they have.
In regards to the PHS, what all information can they get? I have a second trans am that unfortunately I have to sell because I have no where to store it, and I don't want the car to rust apart since the body is pretty much rust free. Only blemishes are a few dings.
Anyway, I believe the car is a WS6, but someone either replaced the center console at one point, or ripped out the options sticker in the center console. I'd love to be able to get that sticker back so I knew what the car really was, and so someone would be able to restore that care since it really wouldn't need much if you aren't worried about having the original motor.

Technically that page on 1986 is not correct. I know of a T-top, LB9, A/C, WS6 Trans Am that got the 16x8 N96 wheels. It is an early 1986 as it has the 140 speedo without the Km/h listed, only Mph. So it may be a mid year change.

My other TA, the one that I need to sell due to no storage location, is also an '86.
It's got T-Top, A/C, and I'm assuming the WS6 (the option code sticker was taken out of the center console) has the N96 wheels on it in gold (car is black primary with gold along bottom).
At this point, I'm only guessing it's a WS6 because the tire size sticker in the door jamb has the 245/50R16 (I think that's correct, but I know it's 16 inch with the wide tires), vs. the 215/65R16 that my white TA has. It also has the 4 wheel disc brake option on it as well.
But it only has the 80 MPH speedo, and was engine code H, so not the higher power engine. However, that 305 was pulled and a 350 was dropped in (all be it, not a very clean engine swap in my honest opinion, I probably would have taken a bit more time with it myself).
John, I'm not sure of the accuracy, as far as applications. My main point of posting the link was to match RPOs with pictures as the poster wanted that information. If it's inaccurate, it would be good to fix it and to expand on it. I don't know of any other similar information.

The ability for PHS to get info older than 89 (iirc) is very limited.

Pontiac Historical Services has only documents for 1986 and older Pontiacs. Pontiac Motor Division is still in possession of information on 1987 and newer Pontiacs.

Guess I was remembering it backwards. They can get older, but not newer. It still leaves my 87 GTA out.

It seems the PW7's would be optional on the car as it has the A/C and T-Tops.
A/C and T-Tops would not force the PW7's if Im reading that doc correctly.
