i just bought an 82 pace car i have a few important questions it was a basket case but a solid rust free car lots of little things missing a barn find was sitting for 15 years. the blue interior pieces were they pace car color specific or were other camaros have the same dark blue color?? i need some interior pieces but dont know if regular cars were the same color besides the carpet trims is there a code color??? can you buy the carpet that goes on the interior pices or is it just floor carpet?? was this standard in all cars also can you buy an aftermarket carpet in the right color???is there a color code??? were the rims the same besides the red stripe??? my biuld sheet says digital clock were does it go??? how good are the aftermarket seat covers?? mine are all ripped. luckily my door panels are good going to do a nut and bolt to this car so thanks in advance. if anyone has one my email is brienties@mountaincable.net woudnt mind some close up pics of certauin areas

There are complete seat kits out there that are pretty close to original. The drivers' head rest has the multi colored Z28 embroidered from the factory and the replacements don't. I would recommend replacing all of the seats so they are an exact match. If you want the fabric only and have someone to redo it, contact SMS fabric in Oregon. They can match the original fabric. And yes, the colors were pace car specific. The rims are same, but with the red stripe. The carpet on the console and door is the same carpet as the floor, but isn't the flor carpet. The carpet on all 3rd gen doors and consoles are the same carpet, but cut to fit the door and console. The clock is part of the radio system.

I currently completely redone my 82 pace car just this last winter. It's a 2 owner car with 18k currently on the clock. I have had the car for some 20 years, and the only reason for redoing it is because the paint from the factory sucked, and it was getting pretty thin from buffing and waxing trying to keep it shiny.
Anyway, one day I buffed through a spot on the driver's door, and actually thought about just redoing the door, but my body shop talked me out of it saying if your gonna do it right, do the whole thing, which I'm glad I did.
They had a great car to work with, and took tons of pics before completely disassembling it.
Anyway it turned out to be an awesome job, and am very proud of it, and the job the body shop did.
Since I have had the car so long, I can probably fill you in on almost anything you would like to know.
SMS is a good start for the seat material. The carpet I got from ACC (Auto Custom Carpet). I told them what color I had (blue), and they sent me a bunch of small samples so I could match it right up. Keep in mind that you do have to get extra carpet for the console, rear panels, and door panels.
As far as the Z-28 markings on the seats......I couldn't find anyone to do the work, because it was a Chevrolet trade mark. Nobody wanted to get in trouble for duplicating the work, and I even went as far as going through Chevrolet themselves, to no avail. I then found a shop that newly opened at the time, and wasn't too familiar with licensing and such. I gave them the material, and explained where I wanted the logo to go. I know it's not exact to factory, but I had them embroider it on top of silver, so the tri-color red really pops out. I figured while I'm at it, I had the same done to the passenger seat. Couldn't complain for what they charged me, $20 bucks.
Yes, the wheels are pace car specific. My wheels were ok, but I thought I just as well give them a make over since the whole car was done. The wheels were sent to Texas, where they were put on a lathe, and turned down to the center. If you look at your wheels, you will see that the top of the spokes, and the rims are a shiney aluminum, while the rest of the spokes are a dull silver. When the wheel was done on the lathe, then the masked off the tops of the spokes, and the rim, and powder coated them the original color, and then put a coat of clear powder coat on the entire wheel. They then painted the black centers, and used a pin stripe masking tape and taped off the rim of the wheel. The red stripe was then painted on. They look better than the originals!!
If your car says it was supposed to have the original clock, then it should be built into the stereo system. Otherwise it was an actual clock movement built into the console.
I can also only imagine what the interior plastic may look like?? My only fix for this problem was to find a nice used set, preferably black, or gray because they didn't chalk up from the sun as bad as the other colors. I then put them in the bathtub, and with a brush, and a scotch brite pad and some Dawn dishwashing liquid, I went to town scrubbing to make sure to get all the dirt and oil off them. Armour All or any of them other brands is what screws up the perfect paint job. After your scrubbing and drying, you take a gray flexible interior primer, and cover each part, front and back. Let it dry, and then I found that they make an interior color that you can buy off the shelf probably in your autobody paint store. Shadow Blue is the name, and it is damn close to the original. Believe me, I went through some colors mixed specifically, and found that the "poof can" was really the best.

As mentioned above, the digital clock was part of the radio. As an option you could get an analog clock in the console. You will see one in the photos above. The wheels were the same 15 inch wheels that came on the Z28. The only difference was the red strip around the rim and possibly red lettering on the center cap. I think all the center caps on my 82 have gray lettering.
