Hey guys, i am searching for the correct emblems for my 87 trans am. the 5 or 6 previous owners tried turning it into a GTA and failed miserably. i was wondering if the emblems used (hood, fenders) said firebird, trans am, or left blank for the trans am models. a car fax search designated this vehicle is 100% Trans Am. NOT GTA. Thanks in advance for the feedback!!!
trans ams never came with emblems on the vehicle, except for the door handles which had the wording "fuel injection" and only decals were applied to the body panels.
I owed an '87 TA which wasn't two-toned. It was the original Flame red metallic, however the decals were the silver/greyish color.
The decals locations were as followed:
Sail Panels were small birds decals
The wording "Trans Am" was on the front bumper on the left hand side.
Also the "Trans Am" was located on the right hand side of the rear bumper
The front fenders under the air extractors had the wording "5.0 F. I. " since my T/A had the 5.0 TPI engine, it was worded that way. However, there may have been two different wordings on each side of the fenders, so i could be wrong....
I believe there was also a small bird decal on the nose of the front bumper as well, however mine never had one since i owned it...it may have been peeled away if it did have one...
The only Emblems that were avalible from the factory were made for GTAs and TTA (firebird models)....

The 1987 Trans AM also had the optional hood bird (DX1). It was the last year, and only available on the Trans AM. Factory photos show that if it had the hood bird, that the standard smaller bird on the front bumper was not included.
