Re: fog light loctaion?

Ive seen two different fog light mounts. There are metal ones and then plastic ones. Both bolt right to the metal bumper support. The plastic ones use on bolt while the metal ones use two. Ive never seen the factory fogs mounted to just the bumper cover.

Re: fog light loctaion?

Holes should already be in the bumper support. The holes you see in the bumper cover might be for the grill iteself? I have no idea which style fogs would be in the 84. The plastic fog light brackets that i saw in the junkyard were on a 85 IROC. The metal brackets were from my old 86 so maybe that was the changup year. If you have two holes on each side in the openings though then you need the metal brackets. If you need a set of brackets i have a spare set. They will need to be sanded down and painted however (surface rust) and im not sure i have all the brackets and such. It will save u trying to get em from the dealership though.

Re: fog light loctaion?

All 85-90 IROCs used metal brackets and they were mounted to the metal inner bumper.

Re: fog light loctaion?

Not according to what i saw and felt at the yard. I pulled em out. They were def factory since they looked exactly the same as the metal brackets. But they were plastic and bolted on with one bolt. Ive never seen them bofore and probably wont again. The bumper support wasnt even drilled for two holes. Just one on each side. If anyone needs pictures for proof i know who pulled them so i could possibly get some pictures of them.

Re: fog light loctaion?

I've seen more fog lights than I could ever count,.... Never saw plastic brackets. I can confirm that there are in fact 2 different style factory metal brackets.

1 style is specific to the 85-87 Coupe nose
1 secific to all 1985 and up Z28 and similar noses

There are no Factory Fog Lights for the 82-84 nose. As a matter of fact - there probably aren't even any mounting holes pre-drilled in your front impact bar.

In order to mount factory Fog Lights on the front of my 84 I had to use the 85-87 Style Brackets and add spacers under tham to lift them to the correct hight. I also had to drill holes in the impact bar in the proper locations. A factory Fog Light harness from an 85-87 set-up ( independant harness ) was used and the system was tapped into the 84 headlight harness ( the same as the 85-87 set-up is. )

The result was that the system is - and works as - factory installed and the fog lamps are "hidden" behind the stock grills. Oh' Ya',..... I had to space the grills OUT a little as well !

Actually there is a factory fog lights for an '84 and I have a set of those. Very rare. I'll post pics of both types. The front impact bar should have the holes there or at least on the aluminum do as I put in a aluminum bar in my '85 and the holes where already there. My '85 had single bolt fog light. Only seen one other set like that.
