i would really like some other peoples opinion on this situation. today i went to look at a '92 firebird. automatic 5.0L TBI V8. interior in good condition, dash cracked, missing center compartment cover, head liner falling the usual for a 17 year old car. engine ran really well, smooth, pretty loud, idled at just over 1000 RPM after warm not sure what it should be at. steering felt good, brakes felt good. overall it had a surprisingly smooth ride. now i come to the not so good part the suspension needs to be done (a lot of rattling and some noise coming from front end when making a tight turn) and the body has a good bit of rust on it and the front nose has a lot of spider web cracks in it. its got 140,000 miles, white with black interior. my question to you is do you think (from the description i gave) that this car is worth $1600. its from a used car dealer and i was thinking of offering the guy about $1000 is that too low. i need input
the rust is the bad part, really depends on how bad the
rust situation is-surface rust is no big deal, but any rust
through in the fenderwells, floorpan, etc really reduces
the value.$1000 is probably a fair offer...
yeah the biggest rust spot i can see is the passenger side frond wheel well is completely rusted through in the front. i thought it was a pretty nice car for $1000 dollars so hopefully i can pull something together and will be the newest member in the fbody community
Car is all warmed up and revving just over 1000...it needs a tune-up, ball joints needs to be replaced, new/used dash pad, and like you said, the suspension needs to be done. And there's the rust!
I agree with 8t2 z-chev, $1000 is fair offer. To fix its issues, should be easy for someone that has some gearhead buddy's and a good dad or uncle! Its here where you can Save some big $$$$-no labor, just parts.....92 Firebird....lotz of good parts at the wreacker!!!!
I paid $450 for a 1991 Firebird with a Formula front end, and spoiler... the car had 200K on it tho, not much rust tho... I think $1K for a car with a rust hole is about right. Personally I would use a car like that for either a driver or a parts car.
