another thing though... even when i show my friends a really nice iroc or thirdgen they still say it is "r3dneckish". they always say that 3rd gens are boxes. i told em that theyre not boxes but ya they do have sharp corners. almost all cars from the 80's had sharp corners. but anyway i think they are just jealous or something and they now realize its too late to admit they like em.

ya i love how sleek 3rd gens are.... they make the 5th gens look GIANT! and ya the mustang was pretty much a box lol....
The 82 Camaro is so far ahead of the design of the 79 Mustang it's not even fair to compare them. It gets better when you take into account that Ford kept the basic chassis of the 79 Mustang (actually a Fairmont) all the way up to 2005. GM whored the 82 Camaro layout (with some very minor changes) up until the end of the 4th gen run, but that's no where near the stretch that Ford made. Considering the Ford platform wasn't even developed solely for the Mustang it's easy to see how they were able to make them so affordable.
What I really find interesting, is how the Mustang has a better reputation then the F-body. You'll find just as many of both in the trailerpark, but even trashed Mustangs seem to get more respect.
One of the things, I am not sure if it was in this thread or where I remember reading it, but when GM designed the 3rd Gen they did some things backwards. Where in times past they would design a car, and then attempt add better suspension to it to make it perform. On the third Gen they actually designed the car to perform, by starting at the Z28 and Trans Am and then "De-tuned" it for the SC, Firebird, berlinetta & S/E, so in essence, those cars also got most of the good technological performance characteristics that were initially intended for the Z28...
You take a Base 1982 mustang, and it cornered like crap, you take a base Camaro, and it was very controllable in comparison to most other cars for the time, but you take a Z28 or T/A and it handled like it was on rails. The Third Gen actually set a new standard when they were released...

Seriously, the theme of this thread is true. I was offered an '69 V6 Camaro for $100 - body looked like crap but was fixable. Just didn't have the space. at the time to take it on. Starting to see some good 2nd Gen shells at the wreckers though.......
For the Thirdgens...........the prices aren't there yet. I think the numbers matching, straight body, etc. will do so. Someone asked me if I would be interested in a Camaro racecar (minus tranny and engine) for about $20,000

ARe you sure that was not $200... No Camaro, 1967 or 2002 car is worth more than $1000 IMHO that does not have an Engine AND a Trans... someone has been spendin' time with the crack pipe if you ask me.
Yeah, most people around here, where I live HATE cars like mine.. or at least they thought they did. :P.
When I told my best friend about me wanting a 3rd Gen Camaro/Firebird.. his reaction was.. "Oh, thats cool I guess", then he went on to tell me that "Nobody in the right mind likes Camaros" I laughed. Didn't listen to what he said, and got a Third Gen. (1987 Trans Am 305), Guess what. Everyone loves it now, and for those who dont love it, they are jealous of it, because their honda/acura cant beat it. (Wah Wah Wah), haha. Even my best friend loves it now, he can't wait untill its painted etc etc etc. (I had to beat his Toyota in a race for him to like the car I guess.. Lol).
I don't understand why certain people call our cars "hillbilly cars", but really.. why do people think or say ALOT of things?
Oh and sorry to post again, But reading through some more I saw that some people were saying that teenagers were ruining these cars, and buying them as their first cars. I agree and dissagree. In 9 days im 17 years old, and I care for my car like no other. In fact, after buying the car (with my money), I have managed to save up 1,400 dollars.. from my minimum wage job to pay for bodywork and a PROFESSIONAL paint job.. none of that Maaco crap.
Lets put it this way. I was offered $4,000 dollars for my TA (from a rich kid at school), no lie, I was, I turned it down. Im not sure if I regret it.. Nah, I dont. I looked for four months to find my car.. I love the hell out of it, all of my money and time goes into it..
Anyway, the point is is that some of us teenagers care about their cars, their hobbies etc. I may have a lead foot, but thats about it :P
