Since I first bought my Camaro I often wondered where the sticker for the RPO codes was. I never found it and have been wanting to take a peek. I suppose the previous owner removed it. Is there anyway to acquire it? Maybe from a dealer? or DMV? Thanks
From 1982 to 1989 (or possibly 1990) the RPO sticker was located in the center console. From 1990/1991-1992 the RPO sticker was located on the inside of the locking storage box in the rear of the car on the driver side just behind the wheel wells. I've owned three third generation cars and I've never found any RPO code stickers in any of them.
If I recall correctly, 1984 was the first year the SPID (sticker with the RPO codes) was implemented and it should be in the center console. It's not uncommon for them to be removed or come off in all these years.
The above website has very little information for the early ThirdGens and appears confined to Canadian exports. If yours is one of those vehicles, you may be in luck.
Compmine is pretty good for vehicles made after 1990. I've never seen a VIN generate anything from years prior to that.
They have Canadian VINs in the database for the older ThirdGens. We do have some ThirdGens that were exported to Canada. If you're not in this group, yes, the information is very scarce on their website.
82-83 don't have a SPID.
84-91.5 have the SPID on the bottom of the console armrest, or on the passengers side wall of the console glovebox.
91.5-92 have the SPID on the door of the locking glovebox in the trunk.
The only question I have, is where is the SPID in a 92 convertible?
The 1992 convertibles don't have the locking compartment in the trunk. My 91RS convertible is what I would consider a mid 91 production car, and still has the cut down coupe panels in the trunk. I'm not sure if later 91's have the coupe panels or the formed carpet...
Yes, 1992 convertibles have the molded carpet instead of the cut plastic panels. I have a 1992 TA Convertible.
This was discussed, briefly, last year. I think some 1991 Convertible owners said they have the molded carpet and the SPID in the center console. So it appears, based on user input, the change may have been sometime in 1991. John was asking about this, so he may know more details.
Am I correct to assume that the SPID was simply placed on the inside wall of the center console for 1992 (and 1991s that don't have the plastic compartments in the trunk) by the factory? And that ASC did not move them? So did the 1992s (and 1991s that didn't have plastic compartments in the trunk), not have anything when they shipped to ASC? Based on a photo from the Van Nuys factory plant that KIZZ posted that came from David, they didn't ship with rear hatches. I would assume they didn't ship with compartments to be discarded?

My '91 RS coupe had the label in the compartment in the hatch, build date was 12/10/90. Chris
