What years did the Trans am have the aluminum bulge hood? Did T/A's have the aluminum bumper supports?
LMAO,I have been slammed with aluminum hood request in the past few weeks,Whats going on here ??
For what I have read,A few EARLY built 1982 Trans Am's WS6 had em,And I wouldn't be surprised if they were installed on the MSE cars.Personally all the '82 crossfire cars I have parted have had aluminum front impact bumpers on them,Plus I have parted out like (30) '82 trans am's and and not 1 had an aluminum hood.I know they came on the '91/92 Firehawk cars
Honestly I wouldn't waste my time trying to find one
Just for fun... I've had 3 complete L69 HO aircleaners, 3 complete overhead consoles (with flashlights), a OEM fiberglass Z28 hood, a set of 91-92 GTA tail lights, and so on down the line of "rare" unobtainable parts. In 15 years of junkyard crawling, I've never seen an aluminum bulge hood.
Like the man said, if you see a bulge hood in the junkyard, look for rusty rock chips or test it with a magnet. But don't bust a butt trying to find one.

Wow I didn't think that it would be that rare. Does anyone have a clue how you got the aluminum hood on the car to begin with? Was it part of an option? Like did it come with the CFI or WS6 or if you had ttops? Or was it just the luck of the draw? I read somewhere it was a dealer intsalled option, wonder how true that is. I also read somewhere there is an "A" stamped underneath the hood if its aluminum.
Some of the other stuff you listed I've seen for sale quite a few times but never the aluminum hood.
The main reason the aluminum hood hardly ever (if ever) pops up for sale is that the people who would scrap a thirdgen usually aren't the kind that would ever think to check or notice it was anything special. I'd venture a guess that 1 in 10 enthusiasts doesn't even know they exist. You can't market something if you don't know it's there.
Beyond that, I wouldn't even bother trying to sell a hood on the internet. Unless you get lucky and find a local buyer you've gotta build a box and convince the buyer to pay truck freight. !@#$ that. A person would probably lose money on that deal.
Another thing to keep in mind is that by far the most common wreck involving a thirdgen destroys the hood, and we're talking about a part that was only used in the early years, and only on the Trans Am. When was the last time you saw a 82 anything? How likely is it that it's never been involved in a front end collision?

Funny....I've been looking for a spare for several years and haven't been able to come up w/ one. FWIW, some have the "A" stamped underneath and some don't. (Tony's doesn't.)
The stock hood is in the 65-70 # range, I dont have the exact number handy but its in that area. The fiberglass hoods vary, but figure 20-25 # if any of them are telling the truth about what they really weigh. Never weighed one myself.

I've had my hood off the car, I remember being able to lift it and move it without much difficulty over short distances. I know mine is a steel hood, so I think we are talking 40lbs or something. I know its not 70. I wouldn't have been able to move it too far on my own, or I'm stronger than I thought.
an FYI, if you really want a ridiculous power bilge hood and cant find an aluminum one, VFN makes fiberglass ones, and they will also make them out of carbon fiber, they quoted my 900 bux for a fiber one.

I think steel hoods are around 50-55ish. not 100% sure tho
