Who has the earliest production IROC?
I recently bought an 85 IROC to add to my 82-92 Camaro Collection. In the picures the seller emailed me while we were negotiating a deal, I could tell it was an early model since it has metal trimmed T-Tops and the v-groove pulleys but the door tag was too blurry to read in the pics. It looked like a clean car and I just had to patiently wait until it was delivered for me to inspect it up close. I called a guy I know who worked at the Norwood Assembly Plant back in the 80's to tell him the car just arrived. First question he asked was "When was it built?". I told him November 1984, and he informed me that my car was one of the first IROC's off the line since November was the start of IROC production. It's a T-Top, L69 5-Speed in silver metallic with red decals and charcoal (black) L/S Deluxe interior. Optioned to the max, it has a rear wiper (which I thought was odd for an IROC) but it had some other odd option codes that came up "Canadian Option" and "Canadian Mandatory Base Equipment" and the "Do Not Remove" on the SPID was written in French. Since it was a two owner car, I was given the original owners info and I quickly called him asking for the history. I asked what if anything he changed and he said it was totally stock except for the gauges. They looked stock to me so I asked what was changed, and he said it came with Metric gauges which the dealer swapped out for the US version when he bought it brand new; 25 years ago today to be exact. It was destined for a dealer in Canada but apparently was dealer to dealer swapped with 6 KM on the odometer into Roger Dean Chevy in Florida. I'm curious to know who has an earlier production IROC and how many Canadian Export L69's are out there?
I'm posting a pic of the SPID from mine so you can see the VIN and options.

My 85 is 12/84, but from Van Nuys- It is a L69/MM5/J65/G80 car like the OP's, the date on the cowl tag is 12C-built the 3rd week of December. Anyone know when they started building IROCs at Van Nuys?

Definitly means BA in Corvette.
Is there data somewhere listing what month/year each new model year entered into production? My car isnt nearly as tasty as the Iroc mentioned here, however I always thought it's Sep. 87 build date was a little on the early side for 88...

Re: Who has the earliest production IROC?
Original Poster Here,
Please keep the comments coming; I really would like to know if one earlier than this one still exists. Even if she isn't the earliest still out there, this one sure is an oddball. I spoke with the original owner yesterday on the car's silver anniversary (originally delivered 2-28-85) and we discussed the car for over an hour. I only got it this past November and got to drive it all of about 10 miles before she got covered up for winter storage. Right now there's 2 feet of snow on top (hold off on the hate mail, I'm currently building her a new garage with a lift so I can do a 100% correct, total restoration) so I can't check out all the quirks he said it had just yet. The guy I know from Norwood was working on the line since 1980 until the day they closed the plant and said they began IROC production in November 1984 which is the date on this door sticker (I'll post a pic ASAP). He said he couldn't believe this car even existed because of the option combo and the fact that most HO cars were beaten to death then parted out. I was looking for a car optioned out like this one for nearly 10 years and as you all know silver is hard enough to find, but try and find one with a HO and T-Tops and L/S interior, and roof console... you get the idea. This one surfaced and looked like it was too good to be true. I'm not scared off too easily so I bought it from a few blurry pics hoping it wasn't too far gone. The SPID tag is still intact and after I was able to speak to the original owner (a Chevy Dealer mechanic from back in the day who definately knew his S**T) to authenticate the car, I figured I had to have this one so I negotiated a fair deal. Good thing I did because it was destined to get parted out. The fog lamps were removed before I bought it and the rocker switch lettering is almost all gone but it has the rear wiper which is controlled by what normally is the fog lamp switch. It moves both up to wipe and down to wash and center is off, where the fog switch only goes up and center is off. Yesterday, I asked the original owner how did the fogs operate? He said he always wondered about GMs placment of the fog lamp switch because it's located on the knee bolster almost out of sight. He said it looked like an add on, but it is straight off the factory line this way. I didn't even notice it was there and thought it didnt come with fogs althought the SPID has them listed and the lamp harness pigtails are in the grille. Turns out the guy I bought it from removed the lamps (for whatever reason is beyond me) but they worked only when the headlights were on, not just the parking lights like we're all used to seeing. He said there was a factory harness and relays for them still tucked up under the bolster.
I never saw another IROC with a rear wiper. From what I've seen (working at a Chevy Dealer from 1988-1993) Berlinettas received most of the rear wipers but I never saw a Berlinetta with fogs although it was an option. I will try to dig out to take pics today and will post ASAP.
Does anyone else have this type of setup?
And I need a HO bumper emblem in red if anyone out there has one sticking to the side of your toolbox.
Any info is greatly appreciated! The emblem would be better...
Thanks,
IROC-MIKE

My car has a rear wiper & the oddball foglight switch, too! Good luck with the emblem, I've been searching for one for over a year with no results.

Re: Who has the earliest production IROC?
Thanks mr396 about the RPO Z06 being the Camaro, Camaro, Camaro seats instead of the "D" followed by the color number as I thought for the interior code on the third gens.

You mean you can get the VINs from the first 85 L69s? That would be interesting!

Re: Who has the earliest production IROC?
Now these are the first Canadian '85 L69 IROC's not the first U.S. built L69 IROC's. The U.S. built cars aren't available only the Canada cars.
First up from the Van Nuys plant is VIN# FL103167 It's a Black/Gold car w/t-tops Black custom cloth interior (19C) and rear drum brakes (J50).
Second is out of Norwood VIN# FN104899 It's a Silver car also with t-tops, Red custom cloth interior (72C) and rear drum brakes (J50).

Re: Who has the earliest production IROC?
It may be irrelevant but my 82 Z/28 has the rear wiper but no fog lights, I'm not even sure you could get fog lights in 82
