Did 1985 Van Nuys Camaro's vins start with a 4 in the last six #s
I read in the Camaro White Book that the last six numbers of the Vin# started with a #4 in all Van Nuys California cars. Does anybody have any information on this? I'm only looking into this because I've found a Van Nuys Camaro that starts with the traditional #1 in the last six numbers and not the #4. Was it just the assembly plant in Norwood that had Camaros starting with a #1 or did some early Van Nuys Camaros start the last six numbers of the Vin# with a #1? Would 1985 Camaro owners take a look at the last six numbers of the Vin and let me know what they have.

If memory serves, from VIN 100001 thru about 115000 and 415001 & up... not sure why... Firebirds did the same thing IIRC...

I've also seen an 85 Van Nuys car that was 5xxxxx. My 12/84 IROC is 419009. I've wondered this too!

The '85 Van Nuys build has the strangest "last six" sequence vin numbers. It starts off FL100001 then somewhere in the 10,000 range that 12th digit changed to a "4". I have this documented in my '85 Canadian build. The last Camaro I have documented "FL1" is FL110508. The first Camaro with "FL4" I have documented is FL410574. So somewhere between 10508 and 10574 is where the change is.
Then after FL499999 the number rolls to FL500000 and continues to the last '85 Van Nuys Camaro FL503767. I have always wondered who or what is responsible for the change in that digit from a 1 to a 4.
