1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

I spotted this 1987 IROC Z for sale and seeing the pictures - I find that the door sticker is placed too high towards the mid level of the door/molding , thus indicating to me that those are probably not factory installed ones and also not original paint.

From what I can remember , the sticker is supposed to be forward and low . Please confirm with me with pictures if possible. thank you.

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

oh while at it looking at this car and considering buying it .... what do you guys think about the hood/bumper horizontal gap ... is this acceptable . I've owned an '87 Z28 and can't recall that gap. So far I know is what I read and seen in pics :

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

From what i remember, the iroc-z decals do go lower than that. I am certain that from 85-87 the IROC-Z decals were at the front of the door like that, but way lower, almost touching the lower body striping.

check in the pic you can see that it's very much closer to the bottom... Plus, it looks nasty when it's high like that!

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

Thanks for the confirmation ! I just remembered that I held a Camaro book in my private library entitled Camaro Style , Speed , and Spirit by James M. Flammang & the Auto Editors of Consumer Guide (for those who are interested ISBN 1-56173-538-8) and took a look at official pictures from back then and yeah they are low - about a striped height/thickness size should there be distance between the letters and the stripe itself and forward to the front door crease with only space for about an extra letter ''Z'' to fit in there, but kept blank.

Same applies for the 88+ except towards the rear crease of the door.

I wouldn't mind seeing more pics ... can never get enough of them

88-90 had the IROC-Z decal towards the back of the door, under the handle! Like mine is an 86 that was repainted and the dummy put it on the back of the door!! So pissed when i found out... But, I'm gonna re-paint the whole thing anyway and put the gold striping that belongs there! Anyway, who knows what else the guy is lying to you about that car.

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

We're surrounded by incompetence ! I hear ya - I've had my share with bodyshops.

I'm gonna continue my search and skip that one

Actually I had spotted another one yesterday, I just remembered . This one should be a gem with only 17,000 original kms !!! and the stickers in the right place heheh problem is he's asking $20,000 and he's in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada ... I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada .... I just got to want it so bad like my Cobra when I flew to Atlanta, Georgia and returned on a memorable road trip .....

Here's the Ad with pics: 17,500 kms 5.7L, Fully Loaded (except for leather) including T-Bars. Have all original documents. No reasonable offer refused. Car still has the original windshield washer fluid (whatever is missing evaporated). Car shows and smells like new.

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

Nice ride . . . but $20,000
That's a little steep. Wouldn't be to hard to find another great similar ride in the US for half that, plus take a vaction to Disneyland while your down to pick it up and still pocket another $5000 difference.
The Candian dollar exchange is pretty decent these days.

now THAT'S an 87 haha... man, can't ask for a much nicer red iroc, but yeah 20k way too much... 14-15k is what that's probly worth i'd say, or what i'd be willing to pay for. Where are you in Montreal by the way? I'm in the east end. Also, there aren't too many nice IROCs around here (really, besides a few rusted out berlinetta's haha) so your car will shine compared to the other camaros!

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

The convertible is a 1990 and the coupe is a 1987. I bought the coupe in 1990 and the convertible in 2005. This is the stock sticker location for each year. The pin stripe colors also flipped from 87 to 90.

Heheh I hadn't even noticed in your avatar you were from Mtl. Actually I'm on the island west-side of Laval just across the island of Montreal . There's a bodyshop owner who owns an '85 IROC in white , but I'm looking for an '87 or would consider a later year like '89 with superior HPs. I prefer the '85-'87 wheels and kept the set of IROC wheels from my previous '87 Z28. This one is steep in price and wondering if it's worth it ... sure the condition you couldn't ask for better with what's available for sale. Do I really want to buy it ... yes because of the condition ..... do I really want to spend that much is the real question ?!? Part of me says yeah it would be awesome aand the other says hmmm think about it .

Looking at your '87 IROC in blue reminds me how much I liked my '87 Z28 in blue and the blue '87 IROC I had road-tested back a few years ago which didn't pan out The blue ones are really nice and find that with the reds and white ones .... hard choice . Since I had a blue in the past , I figured the red one would be a good choice which has always caught my eyes . 874ME , you wouldn't be in the market for selling it I suppose heheh and how much $ would you depart yourself from it ... if any possible ? Can we see better/closer pics.

Oh BTW if anyone has pics of a red interior - I'd like to see them .. the seller of the red '87 IROC has a red interior looking at them pics.

I have a red 87 IROC 350 just like the one in your first pics. The IROC decal is in the wrong place on the car you posted. However, as for the horizontal gap under the hood and top of bumper, mine is the same. As for the red interior... here are my pics...

Thanks for them links/pics ! Got my red blood pumping in awe and got me wanting heheh. I saw the red interior and noticed that the seats seem a different color shade than the carpet without mentioning the red plastics - I'm kinda fussy on that detail and wondering if it would bother me in the long run or not. How about you when you first bought it and until now ? But I'm still wanting to buy that red find of mine especially with only 17k (kms - not miles !)
That vette of yours - have any pics ?

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

As for the hood gap on the first car, I would say it is too wide. It certainly should be a little tighter than that. IIRC, the factory service manual has the diagrams that show the acceptable gap measurements.

When I first got it, I was not big on red. Whether it was the paint or the interior. Now it's grown on me and I like it. As you said, the shades are different. The owner before me redid the interior and had the seats and door panels redone. They are the same shade and I like it. The carpet I could care less about since it is a little darker than my taste. I will redo it down the road. As for now its fine. However, the black chevy rubber floormats I have in the car, they came from the previous owner, and I just hadn't gotten around to replacing them with nice red carpeted embroidered floor mats. Will do that eventually. As for my vette, it was an 87 vert and at the moment I don't have any pics posted in photbucket. I had it for 10 years and was itching to get back into another 3rd gen.

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

Hello all. Can someone who has an 85-87 Iroc Z measure the distance from how far back the IROC Z door sticker goes from the fender line as well as the height from the bottm of the door or top of ground effect for me? Just repainted my car, getting ready to place the stickers on. Need the correct alignement from some one please. THANK YOU!!!

This is from my '87. Original paint and decals. Manufacturing tolerances will allow some fudge factor in the exact placement. The measurements are taken from the front edge of the door and the bottom edge of the ground effect.

Re: 1987 IROC Z Door Sticker Placement Question

Original GM replacement decals had the paper backing large enough that it was designed to be lined up with the edges of the door skin, so when you pull the backing off, the decal is positioned correctly. Are the high quality replacements (from Phoenix Graphics for example) made the same way?
