Let's talk about Camaro G92 option
I am curious about a couple items. I found a gut locally that was parting out a G92 optioned 89 IROC H/T - (no title and body was rough).
The G92 has 3:42 performance axle (mine is a standard 2:77)
The G92 also came with N10 Dual cat exhaust (13% HP gain?)
in addition also came with an oil cooler. This car also had the LE1 black aluminum soace saver spare tire with air canister. The front brakes seemed to be standard 10.5" brakes.
I did buy the rear end, dual cats and space saver spare to put into my 89.
I did not know where it is located or what the oil cooler looked like (he is keeping engine for a rock crawler). This car did have a/c and was not a 1LE but had parts that where part of the 1LE package. I know that this car would be decent to save but too rough for anyone and no title so I grabbed some of the hard to find parts.
Where is the oil cooler and what does it look like? Is is a direct bolt on? Am I hurting the value of my original car by adding these items or making it a little more desireable? I have not seen any post about the dual cat sustem anywhere on here by doing a search. Has anyone else added these items to their IROC and did it make a considerable upgrade?
Thanks in advance.

Its all only worth what someone will pay for it. some like em stock some don't..
as long as you can swap it all back stock you will be fine..

We are not selling anytime soon. I personally think time will tell on value. I will keep original parts more than likely but the factory performace options form the same year should help increase interest even though it is not factory. It might set mine apart a little bit from the "standard" 350 cars. I think a lot of people are not parting out G92 IROCs.

The oil cooler is sandwiched between the block and oil filter. has tubes running from there to the front of the pan then to the pass side frame rail. One line goes to the rad the other to the hard line bolted to the frame rail.
A quick search and you will find all the info you need.
My TPI 350/305spd formulas all came with thats stuff sooooo I guess Im just used to having all that stuff.
I also grab the factory performance parts when I can.

Okay thank you. I was just wonderig what else I could grab. For $250 I got dash pad, gauges, dual cats, tail lights, overhead console, comeplete rear end, hood vents, fog lights, space saver spare and all the hardwar eincluding jack, console and a few small parts. I could not pass it up - my issue is: did I leave anything I should have gotten behind? The only item I might go back and get is the hatch pull down. I think I coverd all preformance parts - it DID NOT have aluminum drive shaft or else I would have liked to have had it.

1989
Chevrolet built 111 "1LE" 1989 Camaro's for the SCC A Showroom Stock racing series. But 1LE wasn't ordered like other RPOs. Ordering the RPO G80 Limited-slip rear axle & G92 performance axle with an IROC-Z Coupe triggered the 1LE RPO. Here's how it worked: When G92 was ordered, it forced several other options including engine oil cooler, 4-wheel disc brakes, dual converter exhaust and P245/50ZR16 tires. A 1989 Camaro with G92 had to have either the 350ci (RPO B2L) engine with 4-speed automatic transmission, or the 305ci (RPO LB9) with 5-speed manual. These Camaro's had 145 mph speedometers and 5500 rpm redline tachs. If RPO G92 was ordered with air conditioning, the cars were built as street vehicles. If air conditioning was not ordered, Chevrolet added 1LE equipment for the race series. This included aluminum drive shaft, big front brakes adapted from the Corvette, fuel tank baffles, specific front and rear shock absorbers, and different jounce bumpers. Also, fog lamps were deleted for weight savings and better air flow to the radiator.

True, Last year was 87? I thought that too about the overhead (not going to use it in mine). I am going to switch in a clock into my console even though last year was 85 for it. I guess a little custom touch adds interest.

One more question and I cannot find it in a search. Are all G92 cars G80's? Meaning are all perfromace gear ratio optioned cars posi cars? I forgot to look this up on the RPO code of the car I pulled the axle out of. I did not do much investigating before I bought it but the car was all original and when I was truning the rearend today and counting my turns it almost seemed like a 3.00 rear end.
Found this thread but nothing about these options. This is a camaro...

Re: Let's talk about Camaro G92 option
I am by no means any sort of expert on this topic. I've just been trying to sort it out too. I've got two 87 IROCs (one couple, one Conv) and both have GM3 (3:43 gears) G80 (Posi), G92 (Performance axle) and J65 (4 wheel disc). I also have a plain vanilla 88 convertible with almost zero performance features. So I've been trolling for a better rear end for that car. At first I thought that if I just found a G92 that I'd be all set!? Wrong! I found this car whose SPID sticker is seen here. This is an 86 IROCZ with LB9 and auto trans. Note that this car has GU5 (3:23 gears) and G92 but DOES NOT have G80 or J65.
So obviously G92 by itself is not the end all be all. It seems that it is nothing more than a gear set. If you want the whole enchilada you have to look for the G80 and J65 too. Anybody got one?

Re: Let's talk about Camaro G92 option
I'm not sure why people have to make things so confusing... G92 means the car has an optional "performance" gear ratio. So if a car is available with two different ratios, the G92 option means it's the upgraded ratio.
If a car is only available with a standard gear ratio when ordered with a specific engine, or package, then there's only one gear ratio applicable and there's no need for the G92 code to differentiate between the gears.
Any other speculation of a "G92 package" is based on how the gear ratio often differentiates between a car with or without other performance options. It's a meaningless RPO in many cases, because it's more of an "if" or "when" code than anything absolute. It depends on other options that the car has. It's specifically related to the gear ratio, and the gear ratios have their own codes, so it's not even absolute for that case.

I have an 89 Iroc, love to know more about it. I had dealer decode my rpo #. G92, GW6-3:27 Ratio and J65. I had to order gears and bearings from Australia as the borg Warner rear end was built there.
The 7th digit of the vin, DIV -1,2 PROD IN-US. ID LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT MEANS 1 of 2 produced in US? I’m in Canada
