Re: 89 GTA, 26K Original Miles~Mine NOW!

I enjoy the challenge

Today I bought the stuff for fluids/filter changes. I'll do it this winter.

Above is some of the documents that came with the car, I've also added items I've been keeping. From left to right, the original/unused front license plate bracket, maintenance records since new, owner's manual, pictures since I bought it, original window sticker, dealership plate holder, original paper plate, and the Craig's List ad where I found the car. I think it is cool to have this stuff

The odometer disclosure statement. It must have been a dealer car by the miles.

I got the shop cleaned up and couldn't resist a few photos:

I would like to buy a nice car cover with the GTA emblem sewn on it. Anyone know where I can buy one reasonable?

Does anyone know how to post a PDF file as an image? I would like to share 2 other items I have made for it that others may like also.

Re: 89 GTA, 26K Original Miles~Mine NOW!

I am a documentation junkie also. I have a lot of the same things you have for my 82 base car and 82 MSE. I feel it increases the value somewhat if you ever need to sell, you can back up your statements pertaining to the car.

Just from personal experience with rodents, if you can visit the car once or twice during the cold months and check the interior it would be good. I had a mice problem once because I never took off the cover and opened up the car. Luckily for me, no permanent damage, just some dead ones and the dreaded smell, but I got it taken care of.

Your GTA's are beautiful!

I have covers from Cali Car Cover, they have embroidered lettering, but no badges.

I almost learned the rodent lesson the hard way. I had my 91 GTA in storage for 8 yrs and in the process of getting it road worthy again, I found a mouse nest on top of the intake. Hell of a mess. I can't imagine that smell in the car!

Thanks for the link to the car covers. Hope someday to be a fellow TTA owner!

ev, IROC, Louis, Thank you! I put a lot of effort into keeping it nice.

I need to spend more time detailing under the hood. Another winter project.

I have owned an LT1 for 12 years...an L98 for 3 years...and an LS1 for about a year. I would not say an LT1 is better than an LS1 for the same reasons why an L98 is not better than an LT1. Bias is one thing...but don't confuse people and lead them to think a slower, older, less efficient engine is somehow better.

Its just not...sorry for the side rant.
first, let me say to the OP, that your GTA is beautiful. very nice find. too bad you had to deal with those "little issues" that seem to keep any Third Gen down for maintenence at least half the time, come hell or high water, regardless of how nice the car is. mine's the same way. also, come on, man, dont be shy. how much did you get it for? we're dying to know.

now, Jason, let me say this: from a strictly out of the box performance standpoint, i agree with you 100% and fully back your assessment that LS>LT>GenI. but, like you, i have also owned an LT1 car (a 96 Z28 that i owned for 12 years) and in a general sense, i am happier with my L98 because it is less finiky, i.e. every time i hit a bump in my 4th gen, that OBD II was throwing a code. that and ease of maintenence, i.e. the fact that plugs, wires, and things like that were just so out of reach. you know what, i can go on for hours about my 3rd vs. 4th experiences. i'll start a new thread on that.

NICE wheel and tire package.

I would kill if my 86 looked as good as your car. Trying to decide what to do with it now, I have 2 nice GTAs and a TA. I have put so much into my 86 and have had it since high school, I hate to part with it. The other part of me wants the space in the shop and is tired of putting money into it. With motor, rear end, interior, and wheels tires/front end rebuild, I am over 10K$ and have a lot of paint and body work to do still. I think it is about time to send it down the road and look for a 76-78 TA to restore.

Again, thanks for the comments, I really enjoy them as all of these years I was the one wishing for a nice GTA!
my opinion. this black one is the GTA to keep. a 78-ish TA would be a cool adition. personally i would get rid of your 86 and the other GTA unles you have alot of mods into it which makes way beyond a stock 3rd gen, performance-wise.

i just dont understand people who's car collection consists of a different 3rd gen Camaro for every day of the week. even if its, well this ones my toy, this ones my DD, this one is my gas saving 6 banger - its still the same car, i mean pretty much.

my third gen is also a low-miler, but i made it my own as i do with all my cars. in the end, i would like to, depending on my mood, have a choice of driving the 3rd gen of my dreams, or the 2nd gen of my dreams, or the something else of my dreams. other people prefer the choice of their red third gen or their blue third gen, or their grey third gen, or their white third gen.

What a beautiful car! You are extremely lucky to have one that clean, original and low miles. I'm jealous.
I wish it wasn't tan interior though :P. (just personal preference)
But still, amazing find and enjoy it!

Re: 89 GTA, 26K Original Miles~Mine NOW!

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments!

I am lucky enough to be nominated for NOV COTM! It was an honor just to be nominated, let alone being in the actual contest! A lot of great cars this month. Hope I represent the mostly stock GTA well...

I'll never tell

Got all my fluids/filters changed and replaced the front/rear brake hoses. When I saw the condition of them, I was thankful I still had brakes..

This picture got me thinking about some other things...like hoses and serp belt...

The radiator is original so I went ahead and replaced some other stuff. In the receipts I got from the previous owner some of the hoses were over 10 yrs old. So they were replaced.

Anyone know where I can get an AC Delco reproduction battery sticker?

What year did the oil fill port on the valve cover move from the passenger side to the driver's side?
