Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
To be honest, my memory of GTA factory setups is dim at best. Since I'm too lazy to do the research, I'm pretty comfortable with the following:
1. GTA's did not become available until 1987. IIRC, the GTA source page said that there were preproduction versions as early as 1985 though.
2. I think the only engines available for the GTA were the LB9 (305) and the L98 (350). Plus, you could only get a 5 speed with the 305; at the time, the only tranny Pontiac offered that could handle the 350 was the 700R4 (the automatic).
In any case, I don't know who to feel more sorry for: the seller who claims it's a GTA just because of the wheels, or the buyer who falls for it. Still, it's a pretty nice car in its own right.

The whells aren't even right, GTA's were always gold.
And the 305 could be had with either 5 speed or autobox.

Nothing wrong with this picture.
All they are doing is making use of any search engine by expanding the main title to include GTA.
This in turn gets more people to find the advertisement in a search.
They should have listed it as 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA.

It's unlikely that someone in the market for a true Y84 GTA would consider anything else.

Those Rims were Not available until 1986 mid year If memory serves... And they were not Black until 88 at the earliest, 86 & 87 were Charcoal and Gold... The hood bird appears to be in wrong location as well, thinking it should be on fascia....

Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
I put up some pix on GM hightech a few years ago and some .org ***** got all over me because I listed my formula as a firebird formula firehawk.
If they even had a car or listed one they would know that the GMHT site program would only let me choose that..
Prolly the same thing going on here. Like is said above, it'll get more hits with extra titles..

Your right about the hood bird,I read somewhere that if the car didn't have the lower fad dot stripe,it goes on the hood,if it did it went on the fascia.

Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
The hood bird is new to me... I have only seen the small bird on the fascia. There was larger hood bird options in 85-87 that would have been on the hood. In 82-83 I think there was a larger bird that was on the hood as an option and in 84 there was the hood bird that was on the bulge with the stripes... But beyond that never seen it with the small bird on the hood.

Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
Looks like you answered something I was curious about. The Parts and Illustration book, as recommended by John to check, does show the bird on the bumper and at the end of the hood as number 13 and 14.
It has a footnote on number 13 that it was only used with the accent stripe.

Re: What's Wrong With This Picture
The Accented stripe cars got the bird on the facia as per the parts catalog (13) as the *Note is for item 13. The 14 (Hood Location) would be without the accent stripe...
Therefore: in 1985 & 1986
with the accent stripe - Fascia
Without The accent stripe - Hood
Note: My friend's 86, which he has owned since new still had the original paint on his bumpers, and his bird was on the fascia, and he had the accent stripe
