I think they played Hide&Seek with them,I've even herd they could be on top of the fuel tank, but not all cars came with them for some reason or another.

In the landfill outside of Norwood Ohio. It may be under 20ft of fill. Good luck.

Re: Locating my build sheet

I found one under the radiator overflow bottle of my current car. The bottle had a small crack, and I was surprised to find it there when I replaced teh bottle. But it not for my car, it's for the car that went down the line ahead of mine. VIN is one less than mine.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Very interesting information about the sheet under the coolant bottle...

Can anyone confirm (firsthand only) finding a build sheet for a 3rd-gen Camaro/Firebird in any location OTHER than under the two front bucket seats or under the carpeting? If so, which assembly plant?

I'm asking because I've taken lots of these vehicles apart at my favorite scrapyard and as with my own fleet, NEVER found a build sheet in any location other than under the seats or carpet. I very seldom find build sheets (or even trim sheets) in 3rd gens.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Mine was under the carpet in the floorpan in front of the right rear seat. Problem was it was stuck to the floor by the sealer that was used in the floorpan at the factory. I tried to remove it but couldn't without damaging it so I photographed it then put the carpet back over it where it will remain for future generations to find.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Understand that there was no Factory requirement to place the Build/Broadcast Sheet in the car.

Most wound up in the Trash or on the floor at the final assembly line.

I found one under the drivers seat in the set of PMD seats I pulled from the salvage yard. It was off an '82 S/E. My '85 has yet to be found. I've looked everywhere except the top of the fuel tank. All of my interior including the heater assy is out so that's the last spot left.

Lucky you....I literally removed the seats and carpet on my car a few years ago and to no avail. was i able to find it. Or even the trim sheet. I never did look near the dash where the heater box was. Never would think to look there.

I mentioned before that someone on ebay was selling a 89 GTA, he was the original owner of the car and had a photo of the build sheet. When i asked him where did he find that on his car, he told me that it wasn't on the car, however it was given to him "intact" from the dealership(!?) Never heard that before!

On my 88 the build sheet was under the drivers side seat tucked into the seat fabric. The only way to see it was pull the entire seat out of the car and flip it over.

'92 build sheets were just thrown on the passenger side floorboard. They usually got tossed during PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) at the dealer. In '92 I was working at a Chevrolet dealer and was good friends with one of the PDI guys. He saved all paperwork from every '92 Camaro we received. Thanks Randy!!

That would probably explain why mine is in such good shape (no signs of being folded or wrinkled at all), it was probably saved & given to the original buyer by the dealer.

I recently took out the rear seat cushions poking around in my car. All I found was a gas receipt from 1987 when Gas was 94 cents a gallon. My friend found his build sheet in his spare tire well. His was an 89 IROC.

Both my 82 birds had them under the front seat cushion, one on the drivers side, one on the passenger side. Both are Van Nuys cars. Found remenants of one under the carpet imprinted on the passenger floor pan of the 84 Z 28. That car is long gone, but it was a Norwood car. Haven't found anything in my two 89 birds.

I've ripped my entire 92 GTA apart over the years, never found it. I ended up getting one with my PHS packet 14yrs ago tho I think. Hmmm, I'll have to check, I haven't even looked at it in over 10yrs lol.

You sure about that? There are no known copies of the build sheets - unlike there are for Corvettes - and never heard or seen PHS able to send one.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Pontiac Historical Services:
http://www.phs-online.com/

Note that they do not provide the full RPOs for your VIN like your SPID would have. It will merely be an invoice with some major RPOs and selling dealership information.

You don't have a Pontiac, so you'd use GM Media Archive:

Re: Locating my build sheet

If you have the SPID, unfortunately either service won't tell you a lot more other than selling dealership name, address and a few pricing information. Past packages also included general specifications for the year of the VIN but that information is online.

These services are best for those who don't have an SPID and want to verify the car and/or for supplemental documentation.

They are valuable services but are more valuable to some more than others.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Couple months ago I got a1987 iroc-z 5.7 tpi red and has the t-tops. I've put the original motor and transmission back in it, and now I want to find my build sheet also. I've read this thread, but I would also like more opinions on where the build sheet could be. I haven't really tore the interior out trying to find it because I don't know if it might be special or anything. I know it is a numbers matching original.

Re: Locating my build sheet

Good Day. I decided to try and find my build sheet. In 1997 I had my driver's side seat reupholstered and saw a build sheet on the bottom side of the seat. Great idea and threw it out. Today I decided to look for another one and found it under the carpet under the driver's seat. Looks great!
