Early third gen prototypes

My boss gave me a pretty cool book today by Michael Lamm. It has a bunch of pictures of early prototype designs for the third gen. I really like the prototype from 78. Looks very clean with the second gen wheels, square tip exhaust and no spoiler.

Goodness, they had the idea for IROC taillights and the 4th Gen exhaust tips before the Thirds even hit the street! I always wanted that book.

Re: Early third gen prototypes

I spent the first hour here at work glued to the book, looking at the pics over and over again. I am going to do some nice scans and post them up. I apologize for the crappy iPhone pics I have right now. Very cool history, and the part about converting over a VW sciroco's suspension to handle as if it were a FWD third gen is quite funny. Here is a pic of a Buick Skylark converted to RWD to act as test mule.

Cool pix man. The first 2 front end shots remind me of the 80's FWD Dodge Chargers.

I agree !!!

I can't believe how advance(modern) looking that blue car looks with those 4th gen tips and this was in 1978 !!

68Strat It's VERY VERY rare to find the Michael Lamm books !! Your boss must REALLY like you lol

Glad I have the Firebird edition of this series.

I have Michael Lamm's book; it is a great book. Gives a lot of the back story to the third gen. I'd highly recommend it
