Re: 1982 Camaro station wagon???

Looks like someone hacked it up and did it their way. I know that there are prototype Trans Am station wagons from both the late 70s and mid 80s but they were never produced by the factory. I also never heard of a camaro being done up like that. So I will have to call on this one and say it was either an aftermarket hack up or an owner hack job.

You can see from the rear pic that the station wagon top does not match up with the camaro tail lights. Looks to me like it might be the top off of a chev celebrity or Pontiac 6000. What ever, it doesn't look good.

Yep.....Good eyes! That is a F*ord oval on it.

I've always thought the Kammbacks were very cool. That obviously is just a home-made hack of a station wagon roof, grafted onto a 3rd gen.

The Kammbacks were simply a different hatch bolted on.

i didnt even notice that...

its obviously not a factory job.
there are obvious corners sticking out above the tail lights.

i was thinking the same thing about the celebrity chop.
maybe it could be useful as a hearse...
who knows.
does the back even open?

i can picture it now, showing up to a fueneral, doing burnouts in the parking lot, blaring mu**et rock, burying some gearhead...
haha.
fun stuff

Re: 1982 Camaro station wagon???

I am sure in Europe a Camaro wagon hatch or a Firebird would be more popular than here. Too bad really. Like the ill fated Nissan Pulsar NX with the optional wagon type hatch or the Geo Storm wagon looking thing. More room to carry groceries or the kid's stuff on long trips.

That car has been for sale off an on for a few years and has been posted on here before. I wouldn't buy it but I'd like to see it in person to see how good of a job they did putting it together.

The 80s Kammbacks yes, the 70s kammbacks no. But then again the 70s unless they are prototypes or concept drawings don't belong on here. I'll take the blame for that.

Not Very, I have seen it in person a few times at local Car shows.

The guy told me he used the roof off of an 80's Reliant Wagon.

Isn't the Reliant a Plymouth? Why would he slap a Ford badge on there too?

Alright, alright. Im the owner of the 82 camaro wagon. Its kinda hack but its gets alot of attention and is fast as hell. Ive gotta come to its defense in that Ive never poured gas down the carb to start it. It may not look the best but its mechanically sound. The guy is right in its location but nothing else. Its not a reliant top so I dont know who said that. The ford badge is on the hatch so that it might make the vehicle more reliable. Since I am not a gm fan! Its good to see that people are still talking about it, even if its just talkin s**t. If anyone wants to check it out just come to the Burnsville MGM liquors and Ill be glad to show it to you. Drink and chop, who knows where it will lead you. Good day to you sir.

Re: 1982 Camaro station wagon???

I have seen pictures of them, I was more interested in the car in question. I have actually seen several of them in person at the Trans Am NAtionals...

Freshly returned from an excellent Tina Turner concert at the Thunderdome. Here she is boys, the Camagon. Think ca-magon and not cama-gon. People always pronounce it wrong. It's an 82 Berlinetta with a wagon top. Can't remember if it came off a Buick or Olds. The rear hatch does open but, a coffin will not fit so the hearse idea will have to stay an idea. She's got almost 400 horses and a 5-speed. Good car to meet the police officers in your area. I drive the car 60+ miles a day. It's my daily driver and not intended to be a show car. Like it or hate it, thanks for the interest.

lol...I love it! Looks like a roof off of a FWD cutlass/century/celebrity wagon. Re-do the rear corner above the tails, extend the rear side window down to line up with the door windows, dump it in the weeds and LSx/6MT install....neat little wagon.

Incredible replica of a Pinto wagon, that explains the Found On Road Dead emblem on rear - it's even close to Pinto blue!

I find it really interesting, honestly it is the only one that I have ever seen or heard of...

I have to ask, what was the motivation for the conversion if you did it.

Stephen, I know we don't know each other and all but...
as I type this, I can't help it - but I have a smile on my face!

...no, I would not have done that conversion - no, I don't like it... but I can't help but smile at the fact that some guys or gals pictured this project in their minds - believed that they could do it - worked on it until they were finished; and now are driving this creation around...! Dude, this is what car crafting and hot rodding is all about !!

This guy, (either alone or with help), did it his way... no doubt about it; he was not concerned or swayed by the opinions of others, that's for sure!

...no, it's not my "mod" of choice or my "cup of tea", but he gets a big from me.

I like IDEA. Just not the way it was done. Better than I could do though!

I'd love to have a Kammback hatch to put on my GTA.

I do not think it would be impossible to reproduce the Kammback hatch... I could make them, BUT I think there are bigger fish to catch. Personally I would rather make a hard top for the ASC convertibles.

For an ASC piece, you'd have a VERY small target audience. Would development be worth it?

For a Kammback hatch, it could potentially fit EVERY hardtop & T-top. Just not convertibles.

Re: 1982 Camaro station wagon???

True, there are more potential customers for he Kammback, as there are more non convertibles out there that could "Use" it.

I honestly want a hard top for my vert, I do not want a Kammback for any of my cars, so Ultimately the burden bears upon the builder. I could potentially create something for myself, and then later offer it for someone else, or I could make something for someone else. Either way I see the potential for a great loss of money, If I am going to throw money away, I might as well start with something that I want.

Chances are I will never make either, so ultimately the argument is moot.

John

I guess if you HAVE to drive a wagon, you could do worse. At least it's a third gen... sorta I've seen the red GTA Cammback at a show in St. Ignace, Mi and was impressed, but how many people would have really bought one had they gone to production? Did they ever look at a Camaro pickup? Wagon concept kinda cool, but NOT for everyone (not for MOST would be more accurate!)

Re: 1982 Camaro station wagon???

The way I look at the Kammback it is an attempt to make the car more "Practical" by adding extra storage. I could have really used that a few years ago when my friend bought a set of Leather GTA "Ultima" seats at the 2008 Trans Am Nationals. We found a way to stuff the seats, our luggage and then I won my class that year. There was no room left in the car so I had to disassemble the trophy.

Beyond that to me there is nothing that screams I gotta get one of those because want my car to look like station wagon.

Mind that I am not completely turned off by the Kammback, I think it is novel, and I really think it is neat. But do I really want one?
