There was a dealer installed alarm that was a GM piece that had a keypad, it is possible it is one of those.

I note you have a 9 bolt with a 3.70 so you must have been in there. Do you know who makes a locker or Helical gear LSD for those diffs?

No I don't, the only place I've ever found any replacement parts is at http://www.9bolt.com however, the rear is factory from an '85 T/A with the L69 with the 3.70 gearset in it.

Re: How rare is this?

It was a dealer installed feature. There could be thousands in NY, CA and Chicago and none for th erest of the country. No way to know what the dealer installed. It was not a factory option.

Re: How rare is this?

I had one in my 88 sport coupe. You had to turn the key forward to the on position, put in a 3 digit code and then you could start the car.If you didnt do that nothing would happen when you tried to start it,not even a click

Re: How rare is this?

Remember........RARE does NOT mean something is worth more money. Great convesation piece maybe.....
I have an 88 T/A with a factory aluminum drive shaft. I have never seen another 3rd gen with one or heard of anything other than a 1LE camaro having one.I dunno what it means.......I just have it. Car seemed to have been loaded from the factory, but no 350,no disc brake rear, no G92. But it did have aluminum space saver spare and aluminum brake drums. Whats it mean? Not a lot that I know of ,but its mine

Off topic but my 1988 Trans AM has the aluminum drive shaft (JG1), 305 TPI and drum brakes. It's "loaded" with the digital dash and T-tops. Sounds similar equipped as yours. I can post a picture so you can say you've seen another

I don't think the JG1 is exactly rare. The majority of all GTAs came equipped with it.

Not rare at all. Without trying particularly hard, I sold 60+ of them at one point. While 1LE's were equipped with them, so were many other cars.

Re: How rare is this?

Good to know. I have an 88 GTA and it has the steel drive shaft. I have cut up 20 or more camaros/firebirds and its the only one I have ever come across. Dont know if its rare. Dont really care. I was just tring to make a point that something you have never seen before dosent make it rare and you have helped me prove my point. Different parts of the country got different types of options. I also have a hatch with a wiper on it.(not on my car just have it laying around off a junker I cut up) just goes to show there are a lot of odd things out there. And if you read that last post again.........I never said my car was rare.........I said it was the only one "I" have ever seen. It's not too often you get to see a cars drive shaft while going down the road.........

Re: How rare is this?

I dunno how rare that would be.. but in autoshop I remember cringing when a kid with a 91 Firebird 'Vert removed his stock Delco CD player for an alpine deck, cut out the rear panels for 6X9's, and stuck a tach on the dashboard.. L03 Auto car, nice green, too.

Not arguing with what you say (my only point was that alum shafts aren't rare). BTW, I have the rear wipe/washer option on my 85. It's also equipped with a console clock.

That makes sence and makes no sence all at the same time.........I have an 88 GTA also.T-top, 9 bolt, no aluminum shaft. Only come in drum brake cars? guess so, doesnt matter. I have never seen a car with a key pad security system( Maybe that will get us back on topic)
