Mecham spoiler? 500LE - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

Hello

I was cruisin thru the yards and i found this interesting firebird. It is a 1984 and says 500LE on the doors. Is this factory? If so what is this package all about?

Also it had a cool spoiler which looks like a mecham trans am. Is this a mecham wing ?

The Firebird 500 Limited Edition was a California package offered in 1983 and 1984.
The 1983 model was Silver.
The rear spoiler was produced by Pacific T-Top, Inc. and not at all related to the MSE Mecham spoiler.

Here is the MSE spoiler.

Thanks for that informative info. . Especially the pic. So this looks similar to a mecham spoiler but i take it its not ?

that key chain is awsome. The 500 LE was beat. They did not take care of that interior.
What was so special about the cars?
Did they have the air intake ? I forgot to look?

That 500LE spoiler is KINDA similar...

The Mecham is more like the stock GTA wing, but with a bit if s "dish" contour in the top, creating a bowl-like shape. As well as it being a bit wider & reaching farther back.

If you see a good pic of one, you'll realize just how not-similar that 500LE one is.

They were available with the V6 or V8-LG4.

Each was numbered out of 500.

No Turbo Doomed Hood.

It was basically a special S/E.......

The picture is of the Mecham spoiler from Dennis's Site.

I have a new unused spoiler that the receipt is from, it came with my last DT500 from Reseda, CA.

There is a 1983 version in my town that I see once in a while.

Hi, since your in socal there is a 500LE sitting at the monrovia pick a part as we speak incase you need anything. Probably will get crushed in 1 week.

Glenn Duensing's brother has two of these spoilers available if anyone wants one. He is in Monrovia.

Glenn died Monday and we spent all day yesterday going through the parts.

that spoiler on the 500le looks more like the wingswest spoiler then the mecham.
