I also thought that the fiberglass hood was only on cross fires, but then I remebered reading a thread on here that said there were a few that were made for 84 models, but they don't have the induction flaps that open, just 2 metal plated bolted to the hood there.
i was looking for an exhaust pic. becuase i wanted to see what the tail pipes looked like. I thought mine were stock but mow i don't think so so I was just trying to figure that out.

As far as I knew the 84 z28 HO came with a 4 barrel 5.0. I think the HO part was supposed to be the fact that they came with 3.73. And I thought they did have the glass hood anyway.

the package was 3.73, a high output L69 with 190HP (as opposed to the lg4 with 150 HP) a dual snorkel air cleaner and other small things.
I know they didn't all come with glass hoods, just some, and I want to figure out how rare it is.
I have what was originally an '83 Z28 HO (L69) also.....I know, a year older - but it's even originally from Cincinnati!!
Differences between the HO and LG4 version for that year, the L69 had higher compression (due to different pistons), a better flowing exhaust with a 4 bolt corvette monolythic catalitic convertor, 3.73:1 rear gear ratio, dual snorkle air cleaner, more agressive fuel/timing curve. Not too any other differences between the LG4 and L69 I can think of. -Of course you had "5.0 Litre HO" decals on the front/rear bumpers as well as on the side rockers. - Also a HO dash emblem...
'84 L69 models were first year they offered the HO's with an auto trans. My car had a composite hood also, with non-functional flaps. Really not all that "rare"...they can be found. My original composite hood is collecting dust now, along with my air cleaner, ducts hoses etc...
I "think" the HO's did have the composite hoods in the early '84 model year until a recall for them came out in the midyear. The recall is posted somewhere on this board as I recall. The composite hood IS a bit lighter than the steel one.
All the rest of the '84 L69's just got the steel hood for the remainder of the year.
thanks for the thorough list. I'm glad i live in cincinnati being the birth place of the third gen camaro and all. Im supprised there arent more around here for that reason actually. And the hoods have to be at least uncommon, i mean they were only made for like a year. I would love to have another one. How are your flex tubes for the intake? would you be interested in selling them?

I grew up in Cincinnati, and I assure you that there were plenty of Thirdgens all over the place back in the day. Most rusted away and went to the junkyards. I'll agree the composite hoods are a little unique, but they can be found pretty easy....at least the non-functional flap ones.
I'm holding on to the intake system for now, since I have all my HO parts stored away.
The information here is different about the composite hoods from what I understood. From everything I've read the hoods were available '82 - '83 on all Z28's. The CFI cars received the functional version with the non functional on LG4 and L69 cars through '83. How Chevy mase the determonation on the LG4 cars is anyone's guess. There was a recall due to the hoods delaminating -separating - in late '82 or early '83 model run. I was under the impression they were discontinued after the '83 model year.

thats what i heard at first too, I didn't know about a recall though but mine is starting to seperate so that makes sence. apparently a few that were left over from the previous year were carried over to 84 to eliminate the stock of them I guess.
